What it is is the activation in msconfig of c:\program files\lavasoft\ad-aware 2007\AAWTray.exe
I just changed the name of the .exe file and rebooted. Now the icon is gone. Of course, I could have just unselected the checkbox in msconfig.
I don't know what the service does when it's running, but killing off the entire service rather than just the execution of the tray icon makes more sense to me.

| Re: Ad-Aware 2007 I tried to open Ad-Aware after disabling it in Services and it gave me an error message so I set it to Manual and the icon is gone but the services is still running in my Windows Task Manager. What did you rename the exe.file and where did you go to rename it? | |

Rebooted and the unusable icon was gone.
