Why is this big news? Because a roll out of DOCSIS 2.0 equipment can happen in hours. FTTH requires a huge infrastructure upgrade in areas it isn't already deployed.
It amazes me how short sighted & cheap people can be.
When Charter upgrades my local headend to DOCSIS 2.0 and you are sitting in AT&T land waiting for FIOS who wins then?
