Which water supply for dishwasher???My brother and I differ on which water tap to hook a dishwasher up to. I am NOT going to say which I think it should be attached to and which he feels it should be connected to. Cold or hot. If you can, explain your reason why you choose that supply... Thanks in advance.. |

Hot, so it doesn't have to heat it itself. |

Hot -- always wash dishes in hot. Yes, it has a heating element but that is just to boost the temp higher, not to heat it from cold. |

No question, it is hot water supply. Some cheaper dishwashers do not even heat the water they use. Oh, BTW, the flexible hose needs to go to a drain somewhere for it to work as well. |

A booster heater increases the temperature of the water entering the dishwasher to the 140ºF recommended for cleaning. Some dishwashers have built-in boosters, while others require manual selection before the wash cycle begins. Some also only activate the booster during the heavy-duty cycle. Dishwashers with booster heaters typically cost more, but they pay for themselves with energy savings in about 1 year if you also lower the water temperature on your water heater. |

according to manuals it is cold water as the dishwasher does its own heating... some may have dual where it allows you to connect both the hot and the cold... |

Hot. And you should also run the kitchen sink hot water until the water is hot at the tap so (it's cheaper for your gas waterheater to heat the water than the electric element in the dishwasher.) B4 you start the dishwasher. |

Like most of the others, I've only ever seen them hooked to the hot water side. That's also where I hooked up our new one and my mother-in-law's new one. |

Some dishwashers, such as those from Miele, should be connected to the cold water supply because they use the cold water to cool their stainless steel tubs to cause the hot moist air to condense onto the tubs thus causing the dishes to dry. |

We've got a Kitchenaid, all-stainless, inside and out. It's connected to a hot water tap as per the manual. |

Hot - unless the manual says otherwise !
Only problem for my house - the hot water takes almost a minute to get to the dishwasher / kitchen sink ! So, I put an EEMAX 9.5T electric tankless waterheater feeding the kitchen sink / dishwasher - so now I have hot water in 3 seconds - not 45 ! |

Re: Which water supply for dishwasher???Bosch manual reads connect to hot water side and internal heater will heat water up to 161 deg.
I cant recall any dishwasher that didn't use hot water. |

You should follow your manual, however hooking up to the cold side is actually more efficiant than the hot side, if the machine is heating the water. I didn't believe this until someone told me to time how long it takes for room temperature water to boil vs. hot water. The cold water actually will boil faster. |
