I'd be happy if I could get my connection up above 400Kbs. Every 6 months or so it creeps down to this level, I phone in a complaint, and it jumps back up to 1.2Mbps for a while before descending again.

Have they checked your phone line for issues ?

Not that I know of; not in the house, anyway. I contact them, the speed goes back up, I'm satisfied (for a while, anyway). I have another service request in with them right now, will see what happens.

I had most of the jacks replaced in my parents house. Which solved a lot of problems for me. If you have static on your line, that is a sign there is something wrong.

Just got the 11mbit/1mbit setup, download speed was ~1,400kbytes/s download and ~ 100kbytes/s upload. I live two blocks from the central office in downtown. Before the upgrade I get ~80ms to Megapath, after upgrade ~50ms. Hope this info help for anyone who are interested in upgrading.

Hey KB, is the bytes a typo? Are you getting 11.2mbits and 800kbits or 1.4mbits and 100kbits?

HTel suggested I check the filters; disconnecting the phones altogether didn't do anything, but then cycling the modem a few times popped my speed back up to 1150Kbs. Still seems low by the standards of my area code, but it'll do for now.

I was rather hoping it would be a wiring problem, since we pay for line maintenance. Now I guess I have to do actual work, ie periodically cycle the system, to keep the speeds up.

How old is your modem ? Do you hear static on your line ? You should inquire how long your loop length is from the CO to your location. A friend of mine lives more than 18,000 on a 1.5Mbps circuit. He can barely get 1.0Mbps.

By the way you, shouldn't have to cycle your modem except for certain circumstances. I have ADSL +2 Westel 6100 modem> I've never had to cycle to get my speeds back up.

I think I can decipher it. His d/l and upload speed is 1.4MBps and his upload is 100KB/sec

Well, it isn't rocket science: plug filter into phone jack, plug phone into filter. Or am I missing something? FWIW, the phone line quality is good, no static even on our one special phone with a humongous amplifier.

Anyway, I'm not terribly unhappy with 1.2Mbps, but experience indicates that the connection will slow again within a few weeks. It could just be that my modem (an old Westell 2100) can stand to be upgraded; under what circumstances will Hawaiian Tel do a swap?

If it is affecting your speeds, I would call up HawTel and request a Westell 6100 DSL modem replacement. It should be a gratis swap. I would be surprised if they charged for it.

I called Hawaiiantel and they said that the 7 mbps plan was in my area and would set me up. It has been two weeks and four calls to them to try and get it all worked out but they tell me now that they can't do it. So I am going to return it to them. A little sad since I would have loved to download my files at 7 or even 11 mbps but Hawaiantel seems to have no idea on when they will truly have the service up and running. The reps are nice but they seem to be left in the dark and the sales office tells you one thing and the techs tell you another. Plus to make it worse they say Ewa (where I live) is one of the main sites for the roll out. Right now I have Road Runner and they turned up my speed to 5.0 a few months ago.

I plan on upgrading to the 7Mbps as soon as it is available for us. Let me know if you hear anything about availability in your area, Konaguy, as hopefully my area won't be too far behind.
