Is a higher profile worth the low SN ratio?

New Line stats...help!!!
Hey Guys

Recently I used DMT on for my linestats, and I noticed that despite my being over 5 km from the CO, only 78% of my line was being used. I proceeded to call in to Teksavvy and requested my line be changed from 3000/300 to the next profile up...4000/400. The tech guy hummed and hawed, cause my specs are sketchy, but he said that he would make the attempt to ask Bell.

Needless to say, it worked, and my line is now on interleave on the above mentioned new profile. Please see the above linestats with DMT, and tell me what pitfalls I can look forward to, and if its actually going to be worth the really low SN ratio. So far my connection is very stable...any suggestions?

6dB is severely borderline...personally I'd want a minimum of 10dB purely for stability...the way I look at it if anything happens to cause any noise on the line the connection is going to most likely drop...I would have personally stayed with a 3meg/512 fast or 3meg/800 interleaved for stability

What actual speed are you getting when downloading?

I was on 3008/800 interleaved and I was getting no more than 240Kb/s. My error count was trough the roof.

I asked to be dropped to 2.4/640 and I go full speed ~260Kb/s with minimal errors.

Hi SammyJ,

Maybe it's the right time to investigate Sprectral
Shaping, just give this tweak a try while you can:

ST5x6 (v6.2.17.5-AA) Experimental Tweak

TelNet CLI command

your luck your line is stable.
at 6.5 SNR with an attenation at 60 your border line sync.
If its stable I wouldn't touch it. wait for some snow and your stats might improve...don't hold your breath on that one thou...
BUT
Bicephale brings a good point. TRY IT

You're lucky to get that profile. However, if you lose connection to the point where it gets annoyinh, I'd take what TSI Rick suggested.

Euh...

May i ask why it takes so long to enter two CLI commands?

What's your status now? Are you getting good speeds without any disconnection problems?

Salutations, TilHasBB!

It seems he doesn't really want to, in my opinion:

»Re: SpeedTouch 516 Tweaking :)

At least i could mention Angelo168's contribution!

Addendum

I added a nice
TelNet link in case he required it.

Ok. I managed to successfully telnet into the modem and apply the commands. I have rebooted the dsl modem just in case, and still do not see any significant changes in my profile. Do I require a specific firmware update to do this?

Here are the results. So far the spectral shaping seems to kinda be working. (Hence the split down the middle of the uploads, however it doesnt seem to be applying the right half to downloading, like it did by you...am I doing something wrong? See chart above.

Is there some sort of a magic trick to getting your profile raised? i would gladly bribe the person at the central office yet they don't answer the door when i knock on it. I have tried and failed at getting my profile raised. Funny when i was with sympatico i had the highest download and upload speeds on the dsl reports speed tests.

Can you either post your line stats or send me a PM so I can check into them for you?

Hi SammyJ,

Most unfortunately you're still on G.992.1 Annex A
so there's no way you could hurt anyone's feelings
by writing that ANSI T1.413 works or not because i
can assure you it's not ANSI T1.413 you're looking
at!  My SpeedTouch isn't on-line at the moment and
it won't be for a while since i'm now conducting a
tweak test which i planned to last for a week.  It
seems TSI Rick might have to fill the gaps, sorry!

No sarcasm meant.
