BEFCMU10 cable modem upgrade to DOCSIS 1.1

I have a Linksys BEFCMU10 V.2 Hardware V4. Comast claims the version 2 is not upgradable to DOCSIS 1.1.
see »media2.comcast.net/anon.comcasto···list.htm
However, the literature for the befcmu10 version 2, when I bought it, said it was upgradable to DOCSIS 1.1 !!!!
Here's an ad sheet showing the ability to upgrade...
»c3.mine.nu/befcmu10v2_ds.pdf

If my modem were upgradable the way it was advertised, it appears that it would be a viable product. And would work on comcast power/speed boost.

Is the upgrade to 1.1 false advertising on the Linksys side or is it lack of support from the comcast side ??

That would be the answer right there. It could be that Comcast and Linksys don't have a service contract to provide the newer firmware. Ultimately, it's Comcasts choice on what modems they support and what ones they don't want to, unfortunately.

I called our local comcast tech support and they couldn't help me, and then I called Albuquerque NM comcast tech help who wasn't able to understand what I was talking about. He did say he would pass my firmware question to corporate.

Didn't hear anything else, but today, I happened to check my modem page and saw it was upgraded!!!! About 9 hours ago in the log file...
2007-09-05 03:52:41 notice SW download Successful - Via NMS SW file:signed_befcmu10v2_115-1015.bin - SW server:68.87.75.51
2007-09-05 03:51:30 notice SW Download INIT - Via NMS SW file:signed_befcmu10v2_115-1015.bin - SW server:68.87.75.51

Now my status page says...
Standard Specification Compliant DOCSIS 1.1
Hardware Version 4.0
Software Version 1.1.5 (signed_befcmu10v2_115-1015.bin)
(remember...the modem is V.2 on the sticker, but HW V4.0 on the status page)

Now we know York, PA comcast (previously suscom) and Albuquerque NM knows how to find and install the firmware.

i'm still running at 6600000 bps, so I guess speed boost isn't working yet.

rtalcott,
Have you been able to get powerBoost speeds out of you modem? Doesn't matter whether I run dslr speed test java/flash, I cannot get anything faster than about 4500K down and 350K up. I finally got through to a upper level tech and tells me to get a new modem. He did notice that I am getting an error that is likely preventing powerBoost....
2007-10-17 13:15:37 error Missing BP Configuration Setting TLV Type: 9
2007-10-17 13:15:37 error Missing BP Configuration Setting TLV Type: 8
He says this is the power boost bits that would enable it. He said he tried to push a new confige, but didn't help. Seems like they don't know how to configure the settings for this modem.

Anyway, I thought it would be a good check to see if you are able to get faster speeds.

Chas,
Interesting....I see those same error messages...and I only rarely see download speeds above 4 meg...maybe low 5's....so I don't know what to say...would be interested in anything you find out...I'm currently unemployed so a new modem ain't gonna happen!

I was wondering what those error messages were though!

But, What upload speeds are you getting?? Around here, upload boost seems to be all you get.

The tech is claiming that the modem is not accepting the power boost turn on bit. That error never showed until the Docsis 1.1 upgrade.
I think I hit a wall here since even the upper level tech gave up and just said the modem is too old. I still don't believe it, I think they just don't want to take the time to figure out the bits required for linksys. Sounds like you have extra hours of time, maybe bug comcast until you get some answers from your side.
Of course, to save some $ during the unemployment, perhaps drop back to the economy 768K service.

I don't see anything above 384k....I've got the 4meg/384k connection....more up would be nice but then again I may just cancel it all, buy a laptop and go to the coffee shop...10 months of Comcast buys a laptop that will do everything I need.

I agree...my guess is that it's a relatively old modem and these guys are not going to give you any answer other than buy a new one...it's easier for us..

While I have the time I do not have the patience to deal with them unless I'm down...life is way too short!

they have different drivers to download on there website, 4 to be exact, not sure if that would help or not.

did you call Linksys? i would if i was you. they be your best help if anything and may tell you its Comcast who pushes the firmware out and maybe or not if they can do anything for you.

I went that route. The downloads that linksys has is for the USB port, not the modem itself. It was next to impossible to get them to admit they had a software upgrade for it, but would only give it to a cable company direct. Then it is impossible to get to a comcast person who would know how to use or even want the software.

Clearly, it is comcast who doesn't want to take the time to support my modem.
