I'm wondering whether

they might now be using Comcasts Powerboost technology for this?
Perhaps they've licensed it from comcast and it's now in a trial phase at OOL.
If i'm not mistaken, Cox recently began rolling this out in some areas as well.

With some exceptions, notably the upload speeds..this is the same thing that we see on Comcast.
While I generally see 20Mb or so speeds, the other day I was downloading at about 30Mb as well.
Reports are that Comcast limits it to a certain size file, but I'm not sure that's always the case in all areas.

Really, the whole concept is quite ingenious, and pretty simple really. If they have the bandwidth and it's sitting there unused, why not just give it to someone.
The technology itself seems to allow the network to make that decision instantaneously.

Anyways..this report does sound like what comcast has been doing..although modified somewhat. Certainly, the upload speeds are better with OOL. But, then again, they've long been the leader in Cable HSI speeds and rollouts.

Comcast, for such a large company though, is doing a pretty damn good job if you ask me.
Most of us around the country are now enjoying some outstanding results and speedtests from most of their areas show many if not most now getting 20Mb or so with powerboost.

Not bad for such a big operator.

this is not powerboost . we are getting these speeds the whole time.

Also how come no mention of the new caps for the regular service wich is now 16.5/2 .

this is nothing at all like what comcast is doing, powerboost is only an extremely short burst of speed(long enough to fool a speed test conveniently )

these boost modems are pulling a 0 config for the download cap.

no this is not phonyboost. Comcrap pales in comparison to OOL. This is real speed what cable internet should be like in 2008

That's not always true..nor for all areas.
I've seen many a comcast user posting that their powerboost speeds last well into some pretty large files. In my area, it seems to be more dependent on the time of day..and how much network resources are available.

And, I'd hardly think it's there just to fool a speedtest.
What it does allow for is awesome speeds for the majority of the kinds of files that people download.

No, they're not catering to the p2p crowd.
Nor should they be..for the price they charge.

hmm..sorry to see you still have your negative opinion of comcast stella. It's long since changed here in this area.
(assuming you're the waterbury Stella I'm thinking you are).

And, it's not 2008 yet. It's still 2007.

It appears you got stuck in your AT&T contract and can't get out? Hopefully that will soon end and you can get comcastic along with the rest of us in this area.

It truly is an awesome service now.

Perhaps you aren't on a contract. AT&T does offer their overpriced service without one too.

As for speeds here in waterbury, as you well know, we had a long running thread about what was going on here in town.
And, not a single person reported having any problems any longer following the upgrades.
In addition, I work as a P/T computer tech here in this area..and have customers all over waterbury. I haven't seen a single instance of anyone still reporting what you are now saying your friend is seeing.

If in fact, your friend is actually receiving that..(and you aren't an AT&T salesman in disquise..(note the continual unregistered postings you make)..why not have your friend call Comcast and have a tech come out?
Or..he can always post here in the comcast forum and post his results..tweaks and signal levels.. and we'll be happy to take a look.
Be sure to have him refer to you so we know he was for real.

Thanks.
