Comcast Hate

This is probably the most bias DSLR article I've seen on Comcast in the last week or so.

I wonder how many people are actually affected by these policies. What % of customers. . . .

"bias DSLR" is redundant

Quantity/% is not the issue, nor the point. The fact is Comcast is using this software in the first place and nothing good comes from using this type of software. It's main purpose is to inhibit, not promote.

Currently: P2P programs not connecting. Cannot seed. Secure VPN is still working.

This software is either going to make or break Comcast broadband saturation. I guess they can afford to lose a lot of customers.

Yippee! My FIOS order went through.... see ya later Comcast ..|.,

My crystal ball says that as broadband increases speeds they will move to a usage based model similar to how commercial "T" connections did in the 90's. Speed is very different than usage and maxing usage is much different than maxing speed.

Also as people allow 3rd parties to use their bandwidth 7x24 and profit from it, ISPs will continue to take issue with it.

FiOS not reacting to this is 100% due to their Wall Street REQUIREMENT to sign up as many customers as possible as quickly as possible. Anyone who thinks Verizon is not a capitalistic business is a 100% fool.

The problem with a usage based model is that only about 5% of users are considered bandwidth hogs. Comcast and the other providers want the guaranteed minimum monthly revenue from the other 95% of users. Why do you think cable companies don't like a la carte?

Which is why a usage based model will have no impact on 95% of the user base.

That's really a capped model rather than usage based and yes I think the day is coming when everyone will have a cap and exceeding it will cost extra.

um.... dude, plz get ur facts straight, PLEASE!!
FiOS doesn't NEED to cap or throttle, as the limits on FiOS technology are FAR higher thatn those of comcast. On GPON, each sub can get roughly 70-80 mbps CONSTANTLY, and that's assuming EVERY user on the splitter is downloading at the same time at full speed.
And no, I do NOT work, or have any affiliation to verizon.

It is clear you do not work for Verizon or an Internet company.

You assume the network stops in the town. Then there is the capital to carry that from the CO which has 1,000 subs sharing an OC3 through the regional network, national, international, carrier hand offs, etc.

Verizon IS oversubscribing FiOS as every other provider does. They don't care at this point as they don't want to get caught up in the FUD as sub counts are the most important thing to Wall Street justifying the billions in overbuild costs.

Enjoy it while it lasts, but don't be naive that this is a free lunch
