Wow...that's pathetic...absolutely pathetic....not even a full meg up?
In order to be getting those speeds, they must be using ADSL2.
I didn't realize that ADSL was just THAT sh*tty!

| Re: pathetic said by MrMoody :Actually this is not strictly true. In order to run 3 Mb up, the equipment must support Annex M, which the current modems do not. A firmware update might do it or it could be that the hardware is not capable of it at all. Then there's the DSLAMs as well. 896k is the approximate net speed you get from the maximum ADSL2+ 1024k connection. My mistake.
I would certainly hope Embarq has been putting in ADSL2+M cards into their DSLAM....I can see the modems not being able to handle it, but that would only require a new modem; big deal.
The one silver lining about ADSL2+ and ADSL2+M is that it supports port bonding; therefore, we could theoretically see speeds around 96 meg down and 14 meg up if they wanted to...I highly doubt they'll do this though.

| Re: pathetic said by MrMoody :I'd pay $89 for 20/2, and have one of the fastest residential connections in this entire FiOS-free state. But I doubt they'll do it any time soon either for several reasons, among which are: No competition at that level in virtually any of their territory, special customer equipment & pro install required, increased support headaches, increased more difficult maintenance, limited port availability, bandwidth hogs would be even more so ... not to mention the fact that Embarq is very lacking on backhaul bandwidth.
I personally think what Embarq is attempting to do, as of now, is to light up as many RT's and CO's with DSL as quickly as possible so they can attain 100% coverage some time in late 2008-2009 (I'd think 2009). That way, they don't have to worry about "oh, this area can't get DSL" or "hey! No fair, we're the last town in Embarq territory to get DSL". Then, once that build-out is completely, hopefully they'll address their backhaul issue....if they don't...I don't see how they'll make it...
