not to mention the fact that Embarq is very lacking on backhaul bandwidth.

I personally think what Embarq is attempting to do, as of now, is to light up as many RT's and CO's with DSL as quickly as possible so they can attain 100% coverage some time in late 2008-2009 (I'd think 2009). That way, they don't have to worry about "oh, this area can't get DSL" or "hey! No fair, we're the last town in Embarq territory to get DSL". I would certainly hope Embarq has been putting in ADSL2+M cards into their DSLAM....I can see the modems not being able to handle it, but that would only require a new modem; big deal.
