| [Compatibility] Picasa and Vista Aero Interface
Running Vista Ultimate.
Whenever I start Google's Picasa, Vista automatically changes the Aero scheme to Windows Basic, turning off all the Aero effects. When I exit Picasa, Vista turns Aero back on.
Is anyone else seeing this? Is there a fix?
Thanks. |

1 edit | Yes, this happens with some third party programs. This is not a Vista or Aero issue but due to the third party programs GUI's not being compatible with Aero. The only "fix" is to wait for a version of Picasa that is compatible. -- Some people see the glass as half full. Others see it as half empty. Jack Bauer sees the glass as a deadly weapon. |

1 edit | reply to Oregonian Yep as howie says this is very normal. I hate this also.
Playing Real player and Divx player on web pages in IE7 also cause Vista to automatically change the Aero scheme to Windows Basic
I wish Microsoft could fix this with one update but I think the only way this will be fixed is for every software company to update there software. |

Microsoft can't fix this issue. It's strictly the third party vendors inability to release a GUI that's Aero compatible. I'd suggest contacting the offending program's author and ask them what the deal is and why they can't fix this 8 months after Vista's release. -- Some people see the glass as half full. Interesting... I wonder why the OP's does? That's the million dollar question. My Vista was installed as an upgrade to Windows XP Pro. I already had Picasa installed although I have upgraded it since I installed Vista. I wonder if that sequence of events has anything to do with it?
I may try removing Picasa and then reinstalling. |

1 edit | reply to Oregonian Well, just did the uninstall and reinstalled the newest version. No joy...
Edit: By the way, I am running this on a machine with 2GB of RAM and Picasa is the only running program so I don't think it is a memory, etc. issue. Picasa is the only program (so far, at least) with which I am having this issue. |

What are the specs on your video adapter and are you running with the latest (compatible) drivers available? -- Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot. |
