Eastlink Users Read

So Eastlink just introduced there extreme 15mbit service but low and behold is it really 15mbit or not, well i came across this little piece and thought I would share it with you guys here and then you can judge for yourself. Seems all this upgrade is to make them look good on paper that they offer 15mbit service when in fact they throttle most protocols outside of there network to 5mbits so read the for yourself and enjoy.

I'm sure they do some throttling, but I regularly get download speeds of > 1 megabyte/sec over http from sites outside the eastlink network.

dude read the damn link, a supervisor at eastlink opened his big mouth and told all ,what more proof do you need ??? my god they are throttling big time and yes http does not seem to be throttled but they don't need to throttle that cause its mostly used to browse and not a big concern to them lmao. Learn to read.

huh , looks like it that chat between eastlink and a customer in the link above has been removed, my guess is eastlink contacted the board admins or the original poster to have it removed , thats hilarious lol
guess they didn't want the truth to get around about there 15mbit service lol, also i noticed today that the throttling seems to be turned off for some protocols, a coincidence? i think not. pretty funny

Eastlink has so much traffic shaping going on its not even funny, speeds are so up and down dramatically during transfers you get dissy just looking at them. its incredible.i know some of you eastlink supervisors are reading all this, you need to do something with your network dudes cause this jumping up and down dramatically in speeds during transfers is really pathetic, http seems fine but who needs 15mbits to load webpages and to view streaming video lol

I'm having none of the problems you're describing. I can download at the full 15Mb from Usenet, and torrents upload at generally the full 1Mb.

Try using ports other than the defaults.

i believe Eastlink is throttling all ports used by all premium newservers as was described in previous eastlink threads so either your lucky or your lieing cause i know eastlink is throttling all those other ports the premium newservers are using other then 119 unless they have lifted the throttling on those ports in the last few days.

and as for the torrents you and those other idiots on eastlink using torrents are the big reason the network degrades, when will you guys learn to not use those insecure pieces of shit torrents honestly. and dont give me that bs excuse about torrents are fine and nothing wrong with torrents cause obviously you and other torrent users are dumb or just dont give a damn. this is the main reason why the network gets congested cause of all you idiots(no offence bud) using torrent proggies and saturating all the upload bw. i probably got a load of dumbass torrent users on my node running those crap torrent proggies 24/7 saturating all the damn upload bw .thats more then likely the problem.

»eastlink throttling all protocols on there 10mbit package??

read that link, unless they have lifted the throttling of those other ports premium newservers use lately.

btw Davebo_ i mean't no disrespect my friend , please don't take it as such

I've no reason to lie. I don't work for Eastlink, but I'm broke enough that I'd take their money, if they're offering. Hear that Eastlink? No? Bummer...

Here's a screenshot - just taken.

Offtopic question but what's the name of that theme you are using for your desktop?

well i knew it was too good to be true , ftp speeds seem to be throttled again , was getting great speeds from them other day but now eastlink is back to there old tricks again traffic shaping ftp outside of there network. It was nice while it lasted(2 days only) lol

yep ftp speeds from dedicated 100mbit lines (that im pinging at 62ms and only 12 hops) are pathetic today , only getting 100kb/s and on a 15mbit connection that is really damn pathetic. Eastlink i know you read this so do something with your pathetic protocols or fix whatever is broken for god sake.

read that recent article , as you see most stuff on eastlinks network is throttled as i been telling everyone for awhile now. all these speed upgrades are nothing but bs just to make themselves look good on paper and to attract new customers that don't know the full truth of eastlinks actual intentions and limitations, nothing more.

looks like Davebo_ uses astraweb so try them , also try all the other alternate ports that newserver companies use other then port 119 but i think eastlink has researched most of them and has capped most of the alternate ports also but Davebo_ seems to be uncapped using astraweb although since he has posted that im sure eastlink has seen it and has probably now capped all astrawebs ports they use. Eastlink throttles us to death and it isnt fair as far as im concerned for the people paying for there 15mbit service. its really getting frustrating when your trying to do multiple things at the same time like downloading from ftp or newsgroups and streaming vid and most of it slows down to a crawl when the top speed of everything is no more then 5mbits and browsing pages becomes pitiful, there 15mbit speeds are pretty useless outside of there network as they throttle the hell out of everything outside of it.my beef is why keep upgrading speeds if its just going to put a burden on there network as there answer always is so they throttle everything down to crap??? might as well stick with there 5mbit service as thats mostly what we get on our 15mbit service anyway.

Yeah i have used every different port offered by all those companies...im trying astraweb right now and their tech support is sending it the their engineers. other then that giganews offers some service on others port which i havent tried but im sure is capped. so im wondering if there is a way to make ftp or nntp look like http to get around it. dont know if it is possible but i think it would get around the problem.
I also know i guy who works at furureshop in bayers lake who is using powernews and gets 1.7Mbps but im not sure how.

lol you talking abot me man i use to get 1.7MB yeah but for the last 3 days all what im gettin is only 480 and i called the tech guy and he was like sorry sir we dont capp any ports and he blamed it on my router lol so i think im gonna switch to the 5mb because there is no point to pay the xtra money for nothing or maybe my usenet will give us randome ports for each user

Have you guys tried a SSH connection?

PM me if you want to try it out.

i don't think it matters if SSH is used cause they cap nntp port 119 and they cap the alternate ports all the premium newserver companies use also as i'm sure eastlink has scanned all the premium newservers websites to see what all ports they offer and have capped those as well. One bit of good news is it seems that Eastlink has bumped there cap from 4mbits to 8mbits now which like i said in a previous thread , thats a step in the right direction for them. Although im not sure how they really could be allowed to cap the alternate ports these premium newservers offer and people pay for through the premium newserver providers.

Using a SSH connection gets arounds those capped ports. You pick the port to use.
