| For each, their own... AT&T: 1-12mbits dsl to fttn... no pirated data, would you even dare with our secret wiretap rooms? at&t.. american terrorism and tribbles (in the vrad) Comcast: 1.5-16mbits throttled, and don't even think about bittorent. Qwest: 128k-10mbits... do what you want, we protect your privacy. Cox: 1-10mbits don't worry about quality of service, you can't get much without us raising your rates. Time Warner: 3mbit-7,8,9,10 Do we really need to increase the speed, awe maan.. we thought we could get by being el-cheapo with a premium price... nearly the rest of the cable industry does.. we almost invented fiber, just never invested heavily (for our cablemodem subscribers, except in Metro areas)
Verizon: 768k - 50mbit - ??mbit (how much money do you have?) Dsl, FTTP, Can you say FIBER? Hidden billing / throttling issues which are cryptically masked. Billions spent on dotting the copper landscape with deployed towns, however: Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Vermont, Puerto Rico, Maine (did I leave anyone out?) No FIOS for you..
Cablevision: Cablemodem on steroids-- that is until the nodes get overloaded.. war on warcraft (24/7 mud's) add xbox ps3 online as well, war on el-cheapo $29.95 subscribers, war on the west side stadium... what?!, oh yeah.. we have BOOST 30mbit, beat that Verizon.. ugh, Fiber?, how much is that FTTN upgrade gonna cost us again? Private Dolan reporting for duty!
If you look at the landscape of haphazard companies.. Maybe in 5 years, Verizon OR Cablevision might get to 100mbits depending on how the "BANDWIDTH WAR" might go.. but the rest? Yeeah, right... NOT gonna happen in 10 years, much less the earlier of the two, and that's if either company spends even BILLIONS MORE than they already projected for docsis 3.0 and GPONS...
Not even billions spent on WIMAX deployments is aiming for 100mbits bandwidth PER SUBSCRIBER. No deployments over 100,000 subscribers bests 50mbits offered by Verizon, today in 2007. |
