Brad R join:2007-05-06 Collingwood, ON | Which Xplornet service did you buy? If it's the Ku-band service with the DW7000 modem, you're on the Hughesnet service (your dish will probably say "Hughesnet" or "Direcway"). In which case, you're allowed 200 MB per day, and if you go over that limit you're shut down to slower-than-dialup rates for a full 24 hours. And if you need help with that service, go to the HughesNet forum on this site: »HughesNet Satellite There are lots of really helpful people there.
If you're using the Ka-band service with the Surfbeam modem, then this is the correct forum here at dslreports.com. The Ka-band service has an hourly limit which varies according to time of day. But if you exceed that limit, your bandwidth is only reduced for one hour, and then it's restored to normal. (Also, in my experience the reduced bandwidth is still better than dial-up rates.) You might want to check out the forum at »www.xplornetsucks.com/forums where other people are airing their complaints.
But be happy you're able to return your equipment and cancel your service. A lot of people are locked into long-term contracts. |

While I do get FAP'd during peak times, for doing various bandwith intensive things, I find if I schedule all my torrents to download during off peak hours, as well as have my anti virus and windows updates run at off peak hours (12am-8am) I have very acceptable speeds for general browsing otherwise. Also, when I get fap'd its only a temporary thing, usually in under an hour I am good to go at regular speeds. I also use a bandwidth monitor to ensure I have no backround items downloading (automatic windows updates, automatic Java or adobe updates, etc) |
