| [ADSL] The truth about sky broadband please?
Hi, I am days away from ordering Sky broadband (Mid package). I have been searching the net to find reviews but I get the impression that a lot of people with complaints may just be inexperienced with computers.
Sometimes it is the other way around. This comment is a classic: "I think the speed and reliability of connection you get from a broadband service provider depends on your location. My sky connection speed is 54 Mbps."
LOL If I get 54 Mbps I will be happy!
Seriously though, if anyone who knows what there talking about technically wise and can let me know what they think of Sky broadband, please let me know.
Many thanks,
Dave |

| I just found this: - You cannot use your own current router with Sky Broadband, but this is no bother as they're sending you the super-charged Netgear one anyway right?
Is that really true or is it not just a con? I heard the router is pretty crap. Do they check the MAC address or do they just say you can only use their router so we all fall for the
FREE ROUTER (worth £50) CONNECTION CHARGE £30
I don't want the router so give me £20! |

| reply to mckechan From what we have heard from customers leaving them coming over to us, if you are on their LLU service then things are not to bad, if not and you go on their ipstream based service then things are dire.
Of course they have a rep of terable customer service and tech support, so as long as you dont have any problems and have no need to call them then you should be ok on their LLU service |

| reply to mckechan Their email "service" is lousy. I've had two friends sign up to Sky - one has now moved to Virgin and the other uses GMAIL's POP access via Outlook as Sky's email servers/service is dire!
Do a search for Sky email problems and you'll see! --

| reply to mckechan Hi, I am on SKY connect (The IPSTREAM product) until I am migrated over to the Mid package. 1) It is true that you are supplied with a router by SKY netgear DG834GT. 2) Your Account username and password is already coded into the firmware and not easily accessible (but can be done using certain utils) 3) Once you retrieve your username and password you can use any router you like but will be breaking SKYs T&Cs.
The service itself is OK but CS are C**P as well as the e-mail service having a few issues. However, for £5 a month for MID package you can't really complain can you?
