| Same problem as P2P I hate ads. I use a hosts file to block the major advertising sites from placing ads on my site. I might not mind some ads but the Flash/animated that folds over on your screen so you can't see the page, etc. or an ad that runs left to right over your screen you're trying to read is ruining it for all advertisers.
Still, why should CNN spend time and money on a web site for free instead of making you watch their channel? This problem is similar to torrents and P2P. No artist or media will provide content if they aren't going to make money at it.
Same thing with my DVR. I rarely watch live TV any more. If I come across an interesting show, I record it and watch it later so I can fast forward through the ads. I also have my DVR set to record my favorite shows and I fast forward through any advertising.
So the problem goes much further than just ad blocking on the net or on TV channels. It extends into not paying for content (torrents/P2P) and will eventually cause content to dry up unless a solution is found. |
