After fidgeting with it for about 5 minutes, and finding it slow both wired and wireless, I went back to my old ss5200 and linksys router. Maybe it's a general problem with the 2web modem?

Good luck,
mp55

anon posted : that is a really cool app, i never knew there were that many networks around the area!

but now i have another problem. When I turned off wireless zero configuration I am unable to do connect to my wireless network. ie.

under control pannel, network connections, wireless connections (right click and properties), i am unable to see the "wireless network tab". I can't enter in the SSID, encryption, or key...

I tried the following:
»support.microsoft.com/kb/313242 (If you can view the properties for the Wireless Connection icon, but you do not see a Wireless Networks tab, see the "Drivers That Do Not Support the Wireless Zero Configuration Service" section.)

In the Network Connections folder, right-click Wireless Connection, and then click Properties.

2. Click Configure, and then on the Advanced tab, configure your wireless network by using the available configuration options. The available options and option names may vary depending on the driver manufacturer.

THE PROBLEM IS... I DONT SEE THE BELOW INFORMATION ANYWHERE?! lol blah this sucks

The following list describes the basic configuration options: • Service Set Identifier (SSID): This setting will match the configuration of your wireless access point or router. If you do not have an access point, this value will be the same on all the computers that are in your wireless network.
• Wireless Equivalent Protocol (WEP) or Encryption: Disable WEP on both the access point and in these properties for testing purposes.
• Mode or Network Type: If you have an access point, set this option to Infrastructure. If you do not have an access point and you are connecting computer to computer, set this option to Ad-Hoc.
• Data Rate: Set this option to Auto or to 11 Mbps.
• Power Save: For troubleshooting, set Power Save to Off or to Disabled.
Glen1 posted : There is a free app called "Network Stumbler" and the first thing it does is disable windows "wireless zero configuration" as it is running. It will show you all of the wireless networks in your area and will tell you the channel they are on and the signal strength as well. It is fun to use and it is free for the download.
anon posted : I know for sure the router isn't trying to connect to the other wireless networks in the area. All that is happening is that it's slowing down...it always happens after 2 minutes (i've timed it).

I was so frustrated on the phone with the technicians who were telling me change this and change that... ie. the channel (1,6 and 11), changing the security (WEP to WPA)... lol that's all they told me.
