Right now even when they do offer "naked" DSL they charge almost as much as if you have POTS service + DSL.<br><br>Rick, your question is a good one but think about it. They get to milk money from BOTH the telephone service AND the DSL service verses from just the DSL service. From a business stand point it makes sense. When I renewed my service with the SNET->SBC->AT&T monster back in August, I asked several CS reps about "naked" DSL (or DSL without the phone service), not one of them knew what I was talking about. One even asked my WHY I would want just DSL without phone service. That is how they think. Phone first, DSL second.<br><br>I am NOT a telco shill, I hate AT&T with a passion. I even dumped their long distance service when I got DSL service with SBC, Then SBC goes and changes their name to AT&T when they bought them out. :mad:]]></description>

There is still the FCC subscriber line charge, the other surcharges, and the reciprocal comp for whenever someone calls the customer on that landline. In most telcos the reciprocal comp brings in more $$ than the dialtone.]]></description>
