2 edits | Naked DSL 1.5M Available,$19.99 or 23.99, Chicago, Trib has a story about naked DSL being available through ATT stores here in Chicago. Also available in Austin, Texas; and Jacksonville, Fla.

I was just down the street at lunch and confirmed it.
$19.99 if you are a cingular customer, $23.99 if you aren't, have to be a new DSL customer.

| I'm tired of hearing about all the price wars between AT&T and Comcast. AT&T costing only $14.99/mo.
For over 4 years now I've been waiting for DSL to be available in my neighborhood. Seems to be that I'm located in a small hole between coverages and will require a remote box to be setup in my area. Something about being 15000 feet out of range.
Now it seems more a case of supply and demand, and Comcast is starting to get a little crowded at peak times. Bad latency. |

| Have you looked into providers other than AT+T and Comcast? Covad (DSL) Embarq (DSL) SpeakEasy (DSL) Cyberonic (DSL) Earthlink (DSL) dslreports.com has a DSL service locater that can give you an idea of what DSL providers might be available to you.
Depending on where you live, you probably have access to one or more of those providers who may be able to get you DSL even when AT+T isn't willing to.
Check if you have access to these cable providers too: WideOpenWest (wowway.com Cable) RCN (Cable)
A smart thing to do if you haven't already is to post in the AT+T Direct forum. They sometimes are able to pull strings that the AT+T web site and the telephone reps can't. |

CUBS_FANNext Year Again.. join:2005-04-28 Chicago, IL kudos:1 | All the providers you have listed all depend on the same technology that AT&T use. The lines aren't configured to use DSL, and I live too far away from the main office. |

mrk22 join:2003-06-13 Eastlake, OH | reply to kcblack I hope to see this spread to all of AT&T's territories. It's hard to convince friends to switch from cable to DSL when they don't have POTS because DSL + POTS is very close to the cost of cable and, at that price point, cable usually has a much faster advertised speed. |

I'm in your area and I just sucessfully switched at the price mentioned. I was told the promo is only for Chicago and my price would be $40, but they'll give it to you if you ask for it (price match?).
For Ohio, there's no additional fees or taxes. |

| reply to kcblack I can confirm this is available in the suburbs. I live in unincorporated Aurora and signed up tonight at the AT&T store in Oswego. If I hadn't brought in a copy of the article I wouldn't have gotten it though. I was given a due date of September 25th.
My last foray into DSL didn't go so well. I'm hoping things will work out better this time. I'm willing to take the chance now that my Concast promotion expired. |

insomniacOh YeahPremium join:2002-09-22 Naperville, IL | The article has now disappeared from the Tribune Web site. I hope this doesn't cause other people difficulty. -- If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something. |

This should help, I attached a copy of the article from Newsbank.
Interesting enough a day later DSL seems to be active on my line. I was even able to get an IP via the sbcglobalreg login. I can't actually register for my own user ID though, the system can't find my account information. |

1 edit | reply to kcblack I'm pleased to report that five days later I'm up and running. That's nine days early of my due date. Nice job AT&T!
Now crossing my fingers that I won't have any technical difficulties this time around. Last time I was seeing an issue where during peak hours my connection slowed down to near dialup speeds. I worked with Beachboy here and he could never find the problem.
The only thing that bugs me is the registration process took a dump before I was able to get to the marketing preferences part. That might come back and bite me later. |

That might come back and bite me later. The "marketing preferences" page is available anytime. You can get to it via the portal page "member center" link. At the member center page look for the "Edit Personal Information" link. The "View Billing Statement" link can be handy too. -- God bless our troops |

| reply to kcblack I should be getting a bill in the mail like normal, there just won't be any charges for voice service. Apparently if you have AT&T for your mobile phone service as well, it will be part of that bill. I was also assigned a "fake" phone number for billing purposes. |

| reply to kcblack By the way, looks like no voltage on the line or dial tone of course. Having worked in the telecom industry I know this could be a bad thing. Makes it awfully easy for a tech to accidentally steal your pair thinking it's not being used. I hope there's some kind procedure in place to tag these lines! |
|
wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy kudos:1 | Ok thanks I've seen a few posts in the bellsouth forum saying they have dialtone with stand alone dsl.
They never came up with anything to prevent pairstealing during the unbundled loop era, better be ready to be on the phone if dsl sync goes away -- God bless our troops |
