Think of iPod Touch as a portable web browser with music

Actually, the iPod Touch might see quite a few sales as a light small portable WiFi browser for use in your backyard while sitting in the hammock. Listen to the music and browse the stock market reports and read email while sunning yourself. Easier than using a larger laptop.

Oh its going to sell and probably sell well I don't doubt that. In fact I think it may cannibalize from the iPhone sales.

I just don't quite get what market its aiming for, the iPod Classic is going to hit the fanatics the most (the ones with massive audio/video libraries) because the capacity is so big.

The nano is going to probably still be the #1 seller for typical users that don't need to have everything with them at all times and want to listen to music and I guess the few that'll actually view video on the 5mm screen (sarcasm).

The shuffle will hit people that need a companion to the iPod classic that don't want to ruin the HD based player when exercising or for people that want a NO FRILLS music player.

The iPod Touch? Whats the market for it? It lacks serious capacity to be really considered for video playing..it lacks any buttons making it a pain for music playing on the go..having to whip that sucker out everytime to change tracks is going to be annoying. The Wi-Fi though neat at what point do you really need the internet when you are out and about? Not very often just to be like "hey look at me!". The iPod Touch fails in my opinion, it doesn't look like anything more than a show off device.

Sort of like any other PDA, except this one is called Apple and iPod... *ohhh*, fancy.

I got mine for about $80 and have infinite storage capabilities, I could match the 16 gigs for a lot cheaper. The only thing Im lacking is the sexyness and being free of the stylus.

What's the market for it? Well, I am. I have an old (3G) 15GB iPod that's nearing the end of its life, and I'd rather go ahead and get a new one rather than pay the overpriced battery replacement fees. I haven't even managed half of its capacity, and I'd watch some videos but not huge ones, which makes the 16GB capacity attractive to me.

Not saying I'll buy one, but it does get me thinking about it. It'll be worth some consideration later, with my Xmas money (hopefully).

Some existing products do what the Touch does better:
