Freezing, pixelation, etc.!

I had U-verse installed on June 30, and it worked just fine for about 7 weeks. Then, on August 21, I started noticing problems - the picture would pixelate, or freeze, or "stutter", along with the sound at certain times. I tested different conditions and found that it seemed to be related to video "load" - 1 SD stream would be OK, 2 SD streams (or 1 HD stream) would pixelate and occasionally freeze, 3 SD streams would pixelate and freeze frequently. Finally called them and they sent a tech out the next day. He looked around and then said the "barrels" (the coax-to-coax connectors) in my wall plates weren't "digital rated", so he replaced them. After we restarted all the STBs, all TVs looked OK for the rest of the afternoon. The next day, though, the problem was back, and I've had trouble watching 1 HD stream the last several nights. But it's not consistent - there are periods when the freezing is very frequent, and other periods when it's very infrequent. It's almost like my service has been combined with someone else's, and if they're putting a heavy "video demand" on the service, my TV quality suffers.

Anyone experienced something like this? If so, what did you do to correct it?

I was having a similar problem last week. I had the vdsl retrain and it is now back to normal.

"had the vdsl retrain" means, what - you reset the RG?

Either reset the RG or unplugged coax or RJ-11 plug to force the RG to retrain the VDSL link. Retrain in this case is a fancy way of saying reconnect.

On the reset page on the RG, there is an option to retrain the dsl link.

ah, found it:
"Reset DSL Connection - Retrains your DSL connection on the same line."

That does the same as restarting the RG though, either way the RG will retrain the link.

I dont think it does the same thing as restarting the RG. When you restart the RG, you start your retrain from scratch. When you retrain you train with the current parameters. I am on a long loop, so it usually takes about 3 system forced retrains before my line stops generating a large number of FECs.
