| [connectivity] DSL disconnects after a couple of hours w/ vista
I just switched from an XP box using usb for dsl, and hooked it up to my new HP with Vista. Internet works fine with old Westell DSL modem I was using with XP (no problems) and with Vista it kicks me off after a couple of hours, and I have to uninstall device and reload drivers each time to get it working again. Under connection status it says lease is only good for 2 hours. HP is no help. Verizon doesn't have a clue.
Thanks for any insight! |

No transtats required tommy. Not a universal question to ask.
rockola, go get a CAT5e cable and use it instead of USB. USB should be a last resort, if the PC has no NIC. You will need to uninstall the USB driver from the PC. Uninstall is on the Westell.com site at: support/ pick your modem/ download USB Uninstall. |

@verizon.net | reply to rockola The westell site says its not supported. How can I remove the driver safely without an uninstall?
Thanks. |

What's not supported?
Oh, I see. Use the generic model number. Like instead of 610015-06 use 610010-06. The 10s are the generic models. 15s are Verizon. |

| reply to rockola Ok I finally got verizon to see there were some errors on the line, and they had some settings wrong with the server also apparently. I was able to get the modem working with ethernet instead of USB. Although after a few hours it now states there is a problem with internet explore, closes all open windows, then opens a new window and I am connected again. Better than before, but still a problem. UNder connection status it now says my lease is good for about 8 hours. Not sure how long the lease should be good for or if this apples to the internet connection. |

@exxonmobil.com | reply to rockola Have you tried the device manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Under USB Root Hub go to the properties and click on the Power management Tab nad uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" |
