NVBell (or PACBell, sbcglobal) newsgroups lacking?

I have NVBell service and have noticed that I do not have newsgroups similar to a friend of mine. I realize that the newsgroups provided by each provider may differ, but these are groups like alt.binaries.* that NVBell doesn't even provide!

The NVBell newsgroup structure, in general, seems to be different than anything I am used to...does anyone else notice this, or have any suggestions?

Thanks....

The newsgroups have been taken over by sbcglobal.net. They have dumped a lot of the binary groups, supposedly due to copyright considerations, and the last time I tried downloading they seem to have slapped a 128Kbps speed cap on what few binary groups that are left.

If you want decent usenet service I recommend a third party (pay) news service.

In the last several weeks I have noticed 'new newsgroups' coming into SBCGLOBAL. These are almost entirely weird porn binaries; they seem to be phasing back in all the binaries that do not have 'copyrighted' material on them....

Just thought I'd post, maybe try to keep this forum ticking.

I'll defend Nevada Bell. I want to move to Ely in about 5 years.

Why Ely? From Reno here.

We went thru on the way to Great Basic Nat. Park and I fell in love with the town. It is far from major cities, has nothing to attract hoards of tourists, far from the interstates; yet big enough to have a couple of supermarkets and enough shopping for daily needs.

And if I do need anything large I am within a days' drive of Las Vega, Reno, Salt Lake CIty, and Boise.
