Best Security Suite solution for 3 home computers

My NIS 2007 expiring so I bring up this problem to the forefront as I'm sure there are others who have a similar problem -- many of us have multiple computers & a family - at the same time we want to keep all three computers secure from viruses, attacks of various sorts, spam, malware, and prevent surfing into non-family friendly areas etc..

Is there a single security solution that will support 3 computers? The closest thing I've found is NIS 2007 w/ 3 licenses & Trend Micro P-Cillin w/ 3 licenses. With NIS one has to install NIS on each computers and update each computer for updates individually etc... Trend Micro allows you to manage the others through a main computer.

Any other solutions out there?

I need the following in descending order:

1)AV
2)Parental Internet control
3)malware protection
4)ease of security management/updates for a network of 3 computers
5)spam email
6)firewall (going out)

The first three items are critical for me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

What does your ISP give you for free?

If you are with Comcast, chances are you can get McAfee Internet Security for free. Wheras it's not my first choice, I would rather use that than spend $50 plus of my hard earned money?

If you are with Charter, I think they use FSecure... Check around and let us know...

I would suggest Avira Premium Security Suite. Avira has a discounted price for three home computers and if you buy for 2 or 3 years (instead of 1) you really save. Avira just had a major upgrade earlier this week and the Suite now has a web scanner which is not in the Personal Premium version I use. Avira has outstanding detection and some fine improvements in this upgrade. The Avira store page is again not showng Dollars for three computers for one year but converting from the Euros listed it is $79.95 (store page is showing dollar prices again) and there is even more savings if you buy for two or three years.

I know you said you really need parental internet control. Avira sells a separate product that will do this called Avira Web Protector. I can't see a price for it though in their store. I have asked in their forum. But I would suggest you get a separate software for parental control.

Here is a link for a FREE THREE MONTH TRIAL of the Security Suite! Run and get it!!

Edit: I figured out the price on the Web Protector but it is the price for businesses. I don't know if it is even sold to home users. It is expensive and you would be better off get some independent parental control software if you try Avira Suite and really like it.

Joe ... why not trial NIS2008. It has all the items you ask for and is a lot cheaper then the other listed products. Also you are already familiar with the interface. NIS2008 ran a little slower on MY system but others have said it runs faster on there system. YMMV.

How is $70 for ONE computer for ONE year "a lot cheaper" than $82.55 for THREE computers for ONE year?

I don't even see any offering at Symantec store for a discount on three copies. Looks to me that you are telling the OP that he should spend $210 on NIS and that somehow that is "a LOT cheaper" than $82.55 for Avira Suite for three computers. That doesn't make any sense.

The Wal-Mart in my area has been selling the 3-user pack of NIS2007 for about $60. I think the 2008 version goes to retail stores next week. I imagine Wal-Mart will do the same thing with NIS2008, but I don't know for sure. I like Norton, but I would shop around. You can get good deals on other products at stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., if you don't mind rebates. Sometimes they're on sale, with "instant rebates." McAfee isn't bad. Trend isn't bad. You can save money on Kaspersky by checking the 3-user prices on their website. Eset is coming out with a security suite . . . eventually.

No, it doesn't. Of course, you could head over to the Symantec site to verify that the $70 cost noted above does, in fact, cover 3 PC's per household for the NIS platform.

Of course, I checked at Symantec store. It told me $70 for ONE computer. Maybe your Symantec store is different from the one I got connected to? I went into checkout and had to allow a cookie which I hated to have to do to see the price. So, I wasn't be a sloppy dingbat...sorry if you are still miffed at what I said in Kaspersky thread.

Mele20,

I'm not miffed at all. I'm just trying to keep potential customers informed, since it is an important detail for many.

The image I see is shown, and it should be the same for you. Curiously, the license for NAV (@ $40) remains for 1 PC, making it a less attractive purchase.

The language they use is really not conducive to understanding this detail, since they tend to state that: "With this service, you receive the right to use this product on one PC or on the specified number of PCs during the service period, which begins upon initial installation.". Inspection of the license agreement implies (but does not state) that the "up to 3" language will appear in the transaction record and that is the record that determines licensing.

Gee, I checked again and there is nothing about "for up to 3 PCs per household". When I put it in the basket, and got to checkout, I was strongly encouraged to buy Norton 360 instead for only $10 more. I'm too sleepy to look further into this...It is almost 4AM here and I'm headed to bed.

For the record, I have nothing against NIS. I haven't tried it since I bought my Linksy router over four years ago and it came with the router. I have no idea how good, mediocre or poor it might be or if 2008 is a lot better than 2007, etc. I've heard a lot a good things about NAV 2007 and 2008 so I suspect NIS is pretty good but I can't give an opinion since I haven't tried either NAV or NIS in years but I was not trying to make NIS look bad...I am getting something weird I guess at the Symantec store and I am too tired now to try and figure out why I don't see what you see.

NIS 2008 @ $49.99 if the user upgrades from a previous version covers 3 computers.

Parental Controls are available as a free addon pack by the looks of the site info.

Not a bad deal at all and with stores having sales many times it can be had for much cheaper or free after rebates.
