Too many bandwidth abuse threads. I'll start one soon and we'll just put it all in one thread.
In the meantime, you can read about it all here ---> »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »Does Comcast have bandwidth use limits?

That's like 3 movies per day every day. That's some heavy usage. Even so it blows that they imit someone to any amount. I don't see where they claim abuse unless they feel you are interfering with a neighbor's digital television reception by clogging up the node. |

@comcast.net | reply to jaysapathy According to DUMeter, I did just over 200. So they're accusing me of doing twice over.
And no, my wireless is completely secured -- there isn't one. All wired for me. :P |

@comcast.net | reply to jaysapathy Well, did you or did you not download the 400 gigs in a month? If not, are you running an unsecured wireless network? |

@verizon.net 1 edit | reply to jaysapathy This has happened to hundreds of people... as for canceling your account yes you need to "escalate things" to do so. They will certainly cancel your account right then and there (although you have to return the equipment). |

| Guessing this is going to be the right place, but I'm not sure. Moderators move as necessary, but I feel that I need to get this out here:
I received a call from Comcast's Securities Department today, and spoke with Anthony (techid: ABUSE05) regarding my account. Apparently, on my 8mbit tier which maxes out at 1 meg per second download, I downloaded 408gb in a month. They were not happy with this, and told me my account was "flagged" for excessive usage. The next time, they would ban me from the service, but didn't tell me for how long. The conversation led into how I broke the "acceptable use policy" among other things, and was again informed about the ban, this time being told it was a year-long suspension at the end of which I could apply for "account reinstatement".
I attempted to have the call escalated to his supervisor to discuss this "abuse," but he said his supervisor (ABUSE40) was "Unavailable". I probed Anthony for more information from here on in regarding what acceptable use policies are -- even informing him that I am more than happy to work within acceptable usage - except that they won't tell me what they are! How am I supposed to not step over an invisible line in the sand? ARGH!
By the time it got to this, I was so frustrated that I tried to call and cancel my account not once, not twice, but three times. The CSRs would not pull the plug unless I talked to the "escalation department," which is simply just an answering machine (that pissed me off even more!). At the end of the day, nothing was solved, Comcast won the battle, but I intend to win the war.
If I could tell you anything from reading this email, it's that if you're a higher end bandwidth user (read: you do more than just read your email and surf news sites), don't go with Comcast. As of this writing, they still will not let me terminate my account. A CSR offered to "investigate further" by calling the Securities Department on Monday, trying to get more information. Basically, it's no longer a question of whether or not I'm going to another ISP, but when. And until then, every time I download a file, I'll be thinking "My God, is THIS the file that will cause my internet connection to be terminated?"
First thing tomorrow, I'm on the phone to Utopia or any other provider around here. Even dialup is better than being bullied by a bunch of bandits. I pay $80/mo for the extra speed, they should be expecting extra bandwidth usage. I don't use 400gb a month (how the hell..?) and certainly don't want to put up with some "Securities Department" telling me otherwise. If you're on Comcast, get off now and go to whatever else is available. If you're thinking about Comcast, go with another cable provider or DSL.
Trust me, you don't want to get involved here, these guys are just schoolyard bullies. Sadly, after a little bit of research, it would appear that I'm not the only person who has experienced this: »comcastissue.blogspot.com/
Watch the newspapers.. I'm so put off with this that I'm going to find someone to investigate. JUST SAY NO TO COMCAST! |
