That's kinda too bad, because Cable is especially well suited for an download-centric application like this Xbox one.

I never really did understand the download caps. The only bandwidth it affects is the cheapest kind to get. It's the upload side that really hurts Cable ISPs.
You are right, but after a limit their network topology gets saturated node wise and they also do not like the conflict of interest with the video content that one can purchase elsewhere instead of them (in their mind, since really they cannot match the price and variety of the third party providers).
That's presumptuous on your part. You really don't know much about their network systems or what they are thinking in regards to video content. Your arguments are completely warped by your own personal experience, not reality.
My own personal experience and the information I have from CC reps constitute reality, unless I would rather just believe some unknown person from a forum, of course.

50% in your dreams. Must people will continue to get their video sevice from cable and sat for years to come. You might get to 50% in the year 2025.

That's what AOL said about dialup.

A lot of people are also LEAVING Comcast due to poor reliability and support and FiOS penetration of the market. I am not sure that they are growing their customer base.
Last quarter they had 12% growth in the HSI product.

AOL said broadband would remain a nitch market. They said that most people would never adopt it. They were wrong weren't they?

The people (companies) spending money to setup online HD video distribution don't do it becasue they like to spend money for nothing. They do it because market research shows the business will be booming. When that happens Comcast and other ISP will be in trouble unless they have a plan to handle this now.

@comcast.net

Do you have any press releases from AOL that support your assertions?

I believe AOL could see the writing on the wall and did try to find a broadband partner. The problem was nobody wanted anything to do with them.

Streaming video is no doubt becoming a hugely popular product with customers. If we start hearing about subscribers getting booted who stream too much video content then I'd agree with you that there is a real problem. The proposed 250GB cap sounds reasonable at this point in time to meet 99% of the customer base's needs. Now if the cap never moves or is decreased that is a real problem.

It appears that Comcast is investing a significant chunk of revenue to maintenance and upgrades of it's HFC systems (take a look at Q108 for example.) It could always be more but unfortunately investors get migraines when they see CapEX spending.

No, that was done in Q407:

Fourth Quarter 2007

Added 1.2 million RGUs during the quarter
13% Operating Cash Flow growth
Comcast Cable reported revenue of $7.6 billion in the fourth quarter of 2007, an increase of 9% from the prior year. Video revenue increased 6% reflecting growth in digital cable customers, increased demand for advanced digital features, such as DVR and HDTV, and higher basic cable pricing. Comcast Cable added 523,000 digital cable subscribers and lost 94,000 basic cable subscribers during the fourth quarter of 2007. Driven by increasing ON DEMAND movies and events, pay-per-view revenue increased 23% to $197 million in the fourth quarter of 2007.

High-speed Internet revenue increased 14% in the quarter to $1.7 billion. The growth includes the addition of 331,000 high-speed Internet subscribers and stable monthly revenue per subscriber. Phone revenue increased 73% in the fourth quarter of 2007 to $523 million reflecting the addition of 604,000 CDV customers offset by the decline of 128,000 circuit-switched customers during the quarter.

I just got a call from comcast saying my account was flagged for downloading 460 gigs in the month of June. If I get flagged again, I was told my service would be disconnected for a year without them needing to inform me. It will just be done and i won't get a warning.

I think you just got your warning. The question is will you cut back?

Comcast has a plan, currently they are upgrading their "bones" from 10G to 40G links, and are already field testing 100G equipment from both cisco and juniper.
they have already announced 100G deployment in 2010.

It may be already too late for him as was outlined in a previous post. He did not know about the warning until yesterday, when he was informed that the was "abusing" in June. By the time they gave him the warning he might be already over the invisible undisclosed cap for July, so he really may not even have a chance to cut back. Comcastic fairness in action.

Yes, but as this heavy approach gets more exposure, the public backlash will force the company to rethink its approach. Disconnection for one year is excessive.

A year ago they were disconnecting people for 250 GB use, and now we never see posts with less than 400 GB (more often 1/2 or full terabyte). If they're almost doubling it every year, that's outpacing backbone growth by a significant margin, not too shabby.
