| reply to M A R K BTW - Looks like you're the only FOOL who did not FORSEE that the prices will fall.
Every guy I know who just graduated from college & a lot of people still in undergrad want to get an iPhone. The smarter ones waited for the following reasons: 1. Let the bugs of the first release pan out 2. iPod prices fall every couple of months so will the iPhone prices
Now I'd say that is coming from 18-20 year olds. I'd think you were smarter than that when watching PRICING for tech gadgets fall. |

Welcome to the world of BLEEDING EDGE Cell phones. Its typical. Different products have different lifecycles.
Laptops, TVs, HDTVs, Plasmas, LCDs, Cell Phones and everything that has a LUXURY element to it is always higher priced at entry into market. People pay the premium to have the FIRST ones.. The ego or the pleasure kick of getting it before anyone.
Prices then go down... and pretty much never come up. Why? Because the next BIG thing is ALWAYS coming out.
There are people that go ahead and buy at a premium to have it NOW.. or people who wait for the 4th July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & Day After Christmas sales.
Why do so many good pieces of clothing become CHEAP 1-day after Christmas? 1 day? Because, that is how it goes - You get to wear the latest fashion on Christmas / New Years.. or afterwards. You have that CHOICE. |

| reply to M A R K Dude. They did not fuck you with $200. Its typical PREMIUM that anyone in Asia or anywhere else in the world pays for a NEW PHONE. 1-2 months and the prices drop.
What do you get for the $200? The EGO KICK of having an iPhone before it becomes TOO COMMON.
As always every new Nokia phone would command a premium. A lot of people get it to SHOW OFF.. A lot of people know that the prices will drop in 8-10 weeks and they do not need the EGO KICK of saying "I got it way before most of you commoners did". |

| reply to MadDog3057 And while in a world where people have to treat each with with fairness and respect that makes sense, but in business there is ultimately only profit that matters. And while Apple may do a GREAT job of customer care in 99.9% of cases (and in my experience it is really that close to 100%) they are bound to make mistakes. Yeah they dropped the price sooner than ANYONE would have though (though everyone knew a price drop had to be around the bend sooner or later, and personally I was expecting it at least a month before the holiday buying season) but at least they gave everyone $100 store credit, and that's not too bad. |

| reply to xrobertcmx said by xrobertcmx :Normally, I would agree that you buy something, and that is that. I think with the iPhone we have a difference. First, we have Apple. Normally they don't just lop $200 off the purchase price of anything. You buy an Apple product and the price is the same for a year or two. Obviously the new product selling at $xxx.xx is not the same as yours, but it carries the same moniker and cost the same price. Second we have the Cellular phone market. Yes, today that phone is $300, but it will normally stay at $300 for 6 months to a year before the monthly markdown. 10 weeks for a hot selling phone is not the normal markdown period. These folks got burnt by a product realignment. Third, Apple didn't decide the day before to do the markdown, they had to know it some time out. What I think they didn't count on was the consumer backlash, which really surprises me. I know had I bought that silly thing I would have been irate, but then I became angry when T-Mobile started giving away my cell phone the day after I paid $30.00 for it. So, really, I think it is time to give these folks a break. I agree. The reason people got pissed off wasn't because it had a price drop, it was because it dropped so much so quickly. I mean if sony would have done that with the ps3 I bet you a lot of those people would have been pissed off too. -- "The only thing thats worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."

Thanks in advance. Sure. Type buttmonkeys into the search box on the top left of any BBR page. Ignore all the times I mention it, of course, and you'll find the posts. I'm talking about the Apple Elites®, not the company. What they say about customers probably doesn't bear repeating (ever talk to a Genius bar worker? Brutal). |

| reply to M A R K So? It is technology, that is life. Whenever you buy something like the iPhone or a car or a TV you have to ask yourself: is the price right TODAY, if I think the price might come down in the near future should I hold off for that, will my wife kill me for buying it?
If you can answer yes to the first and no to the second two then you buy it right now, if not you wait until you can. |

| reply to M A R K Again you're just displaying a lack of responsibility. If you didn't feel the iPhone was too expensive 2 months ago then why is that somehow invalid today? My Mom paid $3,000 for a 60" Sony LCD projo TV just over a year ago, I bought the 55" version of the same Sony LCD projo TV for $1,100 just a few months ago. Did my Mom get screwed out of her money in that case? I mean the 60" TV is 50% cheaper than it was when she bought it.... |

1 edit | reply to M A R K I bought an iPhone on June 30th, for $499 (4GB) and now they're on sale for $299. Did they fuck me out of $200? No. When you live at the bleeding edge you get burnt sometimes man. Honestly, take a little responsibility please. Did you have to rush out to buy the latest and greatest toy? No. Did I? No. Was the iPhone "too expensive" when you bought it? If so then why did you buy it to begin with?
I'm sure you've heard of the $100 Apple store credit they're giving to everyone who bought an iPhone early on, that has to count for something too. |
