drjim posted : I'd worry about about it having a spool in the diff if I was going to drive it on the road. A spool basically locks the axles together, and weird things can happen when you corner on pavement.
--
One man's Magic is another man's Engineering.

Rifleman posted : I can always go to smaller tires. I would like the lift and most of the terrain here that gets me stuck is mud.
I agree the truck has been modded for hard offroad use and will have to check it out closer I guess. Like I said---it just worries me about needing to ID any parts it may need down the road of things aren't stock.

z aXis posted : Jeeps are dependable and will take a lot of abuse but you have to ask whether this CJ has been beat on offroad. It was obviously built for that purpose. Ford 9" rears are great but I wouldnt buy one without taking a look at the inside, same for the front end. Only because you can tell whether its in good shape with those huge 36" tires.

Also are you sure you want to be going into the bush with that big of a vehicle. 36" tires are huge and will get you into more trouble than you want if you dont know what youre doing. I would personally look for a YJ or TJ Jeep on 33" tires for your purpose. Then again I dont know what kind of terrain you will be going into since I dont know where you are located.
--
One Nation Under GOD

Rifleman posted : I need a new truck for hunting and some offroading. I am looking at a 83 CJ7 that has some mods done to it. It has the 6 cylinder and a 4 speed. Has a ford 9 inch rearwith a spool? W30 front with a lockright? Twin stick shifter transfer case, roll cage and 5 point harness. Warn bumpers front and rear with winch in front.
It has 36x12 50x15 tires?
I am going from the ad. I want a dependable vehicle that I can go in the bush alone and if I get stuck-----get out. I don't know about the mods but am wondering how hard servicing this will be in the way of brakes, shafts etc.
The price seems right but still unsure.
