Re: [POLL] How much bandwidth do YOU use per month?

Are some of you on different isps? I feel like this poll is flawed... Seeing how its in a comcast forum should be comcast users doing this poll. 30 people downloading over 400 gigs on comcast?! *sigh*

As posted on the main news page, it sounded like it was asking overall ISP usage...

I posted here because it was front page news. But I did NOT vote in the poll as I have Road Runner and I understood the poll to be for Comcast users only.

Well Comcast told me I used 760gig last month. I am totally baffled by this. I mac address filtering on the router. I am suspecting it time to use a WEP type security as well. I can not see myself using 760gig in a month at all.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a router with gigabit switch hub and pretty good wireless setup?

WEP is weak... Use WPA, WPA2. MAC addy filtering can also be cracked if the one is determined.

MAC address filtering is trivial. The MAC address is in clear text in 802.11 frames. Wait long enough, and you'll find a valid MAC. I don't bother with MAC filtering or disabling SSID broadcast. I just use WPA2 with a randomly generated 64-bit hex key, which I rotate every so often

under 10GB 37 (11.3%)
10-20GB 34 (10.4%)

50-100GB 52 (15.9%)

100-150GB 35 (10.7%)
150-200GB 25 ( 7.6%)
200-250GB 16 ( 4.9%)
250-300GB 14 ( 4.2%)
300-350GB 8 ( 2.4%)
350-400GB 4 ( 1.2%)

over 400GB 31 ( 9.5%)

This borders on useful! Hasn't Comcast said that the abusers are in the "Top 1%?"

Removing the "I don't know" responses skews the numbers, but it still looks like 400GB or so is around the 90th percentile. Someone who is good in stats would have to tell me if that suggests that the 99th percentile is far off in the distance or something closer to 450 GB.

100 single-layer DVDs a month. That's a lot of downloading.

Somehow I doubt the BBR audience is a good representative cross-section of Comcast's 10+ million subs. Judging by the number of abuse complaint threads here, the top 10-20% of users seems to be unusually well represented.

Actually, not. The survey is hardly a good example of Comcast subscribers. I suspect that espaeth See Profile's estimate that the survey is skewed toward the cable power users is more likely.

The sample base is too small and the audience does not have diverse demographics. This is not statistically significant.

Girlfriends are over rated.
The people that voted 400+ are downloading their girlfriends.
