| There's Going To Be A Massive Revolt Over This !! 231 Years Ago we overthrew the government over a stupid 'Tea Tax'. Well maybe for a good list of other reasons too, but you should get the idea.
Probably by a bunch of people that didn't even drink Tea in the first place.
When enough people realize how much they are going to have to spend to keep their TOOB lit.
What amounts to a 'TV Tax'.
Theres going to be Anarchy in the streets.
Best part is they are going to start auctioning the upper channels off before the Analog shutdown date.
So when you start calling your Senators and Representatives to complain that your TV stopped working, all they can really tell you is,
"Sorry, the FCC Already Auctioned The Channels Off, they now belong to the companies that were nice enough to pay us BILLIONS for them. We CAN'T take them back now."
Maybe we need to stop asking all the Presidential Candidates about getting out of Iraq, and start asking them how they feel about cutting off TV for Millions of Americans that can't afford the new converter boxes.
Conveniently, the new Prez gets inaugurated about a week before the Analog TV shutdown occurs. They won't need the TV for more of their Negative Campaign Crap for another 4 years.
Why would they even care?? -- We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat !! |

America is the country that refused to switch to the metrics system. |

| reply to KrK Sure, why would we want to switch to the Metric System???
Tool companies like it because they can now sell you a completely different set of tools to accomplish the exact same task.
Plus, would you rather go out to pick up a Gallon of Milk, or 3.78 Liters of Milk??
My car has a 327ci V8, not some 5.3 Liter piece of Crap !! -- We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat !! |

Most of the millions of TVs out there are either with Cable or satellite . Most cable and satellite providers get the local TV feeds via leased Fiber, NOT off the air.
You could fire up a 25,000 watt WiFi transmitter on the EXACT SAME CHANNEL as a local DTV station, and 99% of the population would never know it. -- We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat !! |

| reply to KA3SGM Because it is based on Base-10. It's logical, It's easy, and makes sense.
It's because we didn't switch that now we have to put up with the mixture. Besides 5.3l sounds great to me |

Maybe you should have stayed awake during American History class, your attempted analogy to the tea tax rebellion is weak at best.

Did you read the part about the vouchers that are going to be issued by our nanny state government that you consider to be evil incarnate?. Sigh, what a maroon (with apologies to Bugs Bunny). -- "Our network engineers are aware of the problem..." |

beaups join:2003-08-11 Hilliard, OH | reply to KA3SGM The "BILLIONS" the government is getting from the auction...where do you think it's going? 2 places. 1.) To pay for the converter boxes. 2.) To pay the millions in advertising required to notify consumers of the change. Looking at the posts in this thread, part 2 still has a long way to go...... |
