This idea has been done by our VoIP pioneer Jeff Pulver on fwdOUT for quite sometimes now for free using your own equipments, i.e. asterisk + FXO card, ATA with a built-in FXO port, etc. To pay $400 up-front fees and let people use your PSTN line without ever being able to trace the callers (spammers, terrorists, etc.) is really like playing a Russian roulette. OTOH, it is not hard to find a reliable VoSP with free unlimited calls to US/Canada/Puerto Rico/Guam/EU for about $20/month or about $240/year. investing $400 on Ooma services will only pay off after the 2nd (going into 2rd) year of usage. If Ooma decides to halt its services, due to some unforeseen issues, in its first two years of operation, then an investment of $400 up-front fees is really a waste. This is just my perceptions on such a service provided by Ooma, YMMV.

You can start a termination business by a voip FXO gateway. After log in the Asterisk as a service provider, you can make international call for free.
By the way, I bought the Shang 308 gateway from TCS. You can give it a try. It works for me quite well. And their technicians are very helpful.
