Internet only, you can use your own if it's connected by CAT5, but new installations are being done with Coax so you will need theirs. |

| reply to John97 O.k. the tech told the g/f the same thing (replace Actiontec for free if you have TV service.)
Just weird that Verizon would make you pay for another router if you had only internet service.
Can you use your own router if need be or do you have to use theirs for internet only service. |

2 edits | reply to moonpuppy Someone posted on here before that if you're a FIOS TV customer, they'll replace the Actiontec no matter what because it's required for the functionality of the TV service.
A friend of mine recently had his D-Link that was originally supplied with his FIOS internet replaced with an Actiontec. This router was about 2 years old, and when he got his TV install 6 months ago, they just added a NIM. Well, it stopped distributing IP's on the wireless side so they sent a tech out who installed an Actiontec - no charge. |

| reply to moonpuppy I'd say swap it out if its a defect, within the warranty, they should swap it no questions asked. I had this problem before with DHCP, and i set it manually so its on a static configuration. |

| O.k. g/f has FIOS service (not me....yet )
Her home system gives her the 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address but the laptop works over wireless. Her call to Verizon said it was her computer. I had her connect her laptop with cat 5 cable to the router and turn off the wireless. Same issue with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address.
I had her disconnect everything and reconnect it all. Now the system works but the wireless is not and some of the lights are not showing up on the router. Called Verizon again and they are saying she is lucky she called because the warranty had 1 day left on it.
Now, what happens if the warranty ends and your router bites the dust? Do you have to buy another one from Verizon?
I'll add she also has TV service. |
