| [News] Comcast Shows How Not to Win Friends I know that this topic has been beaten to death in the past, however, the following link contains a little more info. Someone may just find it useful.
Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA) has continued implementing a strange policy recently: It's unplugging its Internet customers. Not the overwhelming majority, mind you -- just its most voracious downloaders. Of course, unplugging your heaviest users is a strange approach on its own. At the very least, it means that we may be looking at the beginning of a change in companies' unlimited Internet usage policies, and it certainly raises some interesting questions about the direction of Comcast's industry...

It seems like a slippery slope to me. Perhaps just the fear of it turning into one at least. I regularly work on my class projects from home by remote connection to our CIS Lab, with the other members of each group sending info to each other for a look over and check to make sure it's all in order I eat a fair share of bandwidth. Add to that I am a Netflix user and well, I've watched about 5 movies so far this week. A little light catching up.
Stick some fansub on top of that and I'm pushing higher again and it's only the 14th. Perhaps I'll get my phone call or an unplug. I don't think it'll happen honestly, I've been with Comcast itself for 5 years I think. I've never gotten a call or letter, and my activites have barely subsided.
And ok, I'll man up and admit I bow to the almighty Porn Gods and download my fair share of that. |

I think you're a perfect example of how generous Comcast really is with their service. You're far from being a light user, but yet..there's no problem on their end.
Now IMAGINE how much some are downloading to attract the problems. 4 full length movies..A DAY? 1000 songs..a DAY?
That's a lot of data...and a LOT to expect for this price.
I honestly think that comcast isn't out to deny people this..it's just the problems that are now inherent in this kind of a shared network and they simply have to police this for everyones benefit.
Docsis 3.0 will help that immensely and I suspect..we'll see them loosen the limits when that finally gets rolled out. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |
