1 edit | [POLL] Defragmentation Software - 2008 Members Choice Defragmentation defined Wikipedia
Microsoft defrag, or disk defragmenter, is a software utility designed to help chronologically order the data on the hard disk drive. The theory behind defrag is to place each program together instead of scattered throughout the hard disk drive, allowing the read-write head to access the data faster on the hard disk drive. Defrag was first available in MS-DOS 6.0 and has been available ever since.
I intentionally did not list defrag utilities that are only available as part of a suite and I may not have listed your favorite. If choosing other please provide a link and I will add it to the collection. This is a multiple choice poll, so feel free to check all products that you utilize. Enough said lets get on with the choices.
Thanks in advance for your participation with this years poll. -- Team Discovery | |

| I've been a very satisfied Diskeeper user for several years. Working great for me on XP and Vista ... I'll add an extra shout out to their tech support which has been top notch especially as they added support for Vista. Personable, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. -- Got a VAIO? | Windows Defrag is surprisingly inept -- a highly crippled version of Diskeeper Lite. Example: I removed my pagefile from drive C:, did a complete defrag with the Windows tool (which theoretically would consolidate files and free space), and then created a pagefile and checked to see if it was contiguous. Nope -- it was in 86 fragments all over the disk!
For serious defragging I've been using an offline bootable CD that's part of the Winternals package; when that was done, my pagefile was contiguous. However, this company has now been taken over by Microsoft and no longer exists: »www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/w···als.mspx -- "Against stupidity, the very gods themselves contend in vain" -- Friedrich Schiller
