| reply to grobinette Great job on the poll grobinette ! As usual, thanks for your hard work.
I voted "Windows Defrag works just fine for me". (And it seems I'm not alone).
That's not to say I haven't tried others in the past...(including Perfect Disk and Diskeeper to name a couple).
I think Perfect Disk is excellent, but after doing a little research (and quite a bit of testing myself), I feel that defragging in general is over rated these days. (My personal opinion of course).
Never really saw what I would consider a big 'performance boost' regardless of the defragger.
So now, I just go with Windows defrag....and even then, I don't bother too often.
If it takes a little longer than some of the others, no biggie...I just walk away for a while.
And while it doesn't look quite as 'pretty' with all those colors and files lined up like perfect ducks in a row, no biggie....does a good enough job as far as I'm concerned. -- I had a life once.....now I have a Computer and a Modem. |

| reply to grobinette I use Diskeeper. I tried PerfectDisk but I found that it slowed down the computer and it does not have a auto defrag. Diskeeper defrags in the background transparent and does not slow down the computer at all. Waiting for the next version of Diskeeper. Wonder what they will add next. |

| reply to meeow Perfect Disk here. Been using it for years and love it, when a firewall I was trying out wouldn't allow it to run, I trashed the firewall (Kerio). I like its placement and how it speeds up the defrag when it has things set.
However it is $$... I'm not about to tinker with my configuration, but will give Auslogics a spin when I set up a new system for somebody, great to see that it is FREE -- To be on a pedestal is to be in a corner |
