| reply to d_l Re: Replacing Speedstream 5100 DSL modem
FYI - we will no longer be giving out 4100s as the DSL modem to new customers. Existing customers can get them - but you will just have to pay for it.
We will now be giving out the Netopia 2210. This will happen sometime near the end of September. So if you want to wait - you can get the new model instead. -- [IMG]»www.speedtest.net/result/1844242···G] |

| The GUI of the 2210 will be almost a complete copy of the 4100 GUI. We haven't tried yet, but rumor is it might work with a switch....if you leave the private address on instead of passing the public and you would have to hardcode the PCs... although that is rumor..and our trainers are too lazy to check it =). It will be alot smaller as well... to the point where it could be easy to lose. heh. And no power button. -- [IMG]»www.speedtest.net/result/1844242···G] |

| said by whocares :would it make any different in speed or performance if i stay with my 5100B? nope, the only differences really are cosmetic and that, and you can look at the full sync readings. There's a front page article talking about it.
I think I am going to wait a week and take the plunge and get one just to say I have one, and know what I am up against. The center here already has a simulator so the techs can guide you through it's setup should you need anything. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. | reply to Frohike Sorry Guise,
I have been in Telecom. 30 + Yrs. & have many local and distant networks of major size and bandwith. With a customer base of Alltel, Bass Pro Shops Cabella's ...& for example I build up to 80 -200 G pipes to handle the network load of i.p. trunking for many large corp. CallCenters. I have tested this product personally and I hear all "hype" in this thread. in "bridge" mode please tell me how to justify this endpoint connectivity. It is a moot point I did not see any changes but gui itself & diags. mentioned by my ATT dude above, I also work w/ them daily (ATT) so in short by the API included if you want it. do not expect speed to increase on a very tight dsl network w/dynamic or static endpoints.
whew.....

| Well for legacy DHCP customers they will want to use option 3 on the PPP location page, I think you can use option 2 but I can't say I have tested that on a 4100/4100b/5100b. I was advised a long time ago that if you are a legacy DHCP customer option 3 was the one you wanted on that PPP location page. Now if you have PPPoE and want to use say your own router for PPPoE or want to use something a bit more advanced than surfing or checking e-mail (or have your own custom box to map either legacy static IP's or PPPoE static IP's) the PPPoE on computer is the mode for you.
Phone_dude is right, you won't see a wonderous speed increase with this modem, all you will really see is a cleaner interface, the fact it's not siemens/efficient, a tad smaller, no power button and some more diagnostic utilities to your liking internally. This modem was designed to be the replacement for the 4100b. That's all it's going to do. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois...
