[OT] New cruncher on-line

Champagne all around gals and guys! Booted to the BIOS with the first try! I had problems getting the heat sink attached to the MB, but that's not surprising, as installing Intel heat sinks has never been my forte.

Second build, but the first without having anyone here to help . Detailed Specifications:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···19115017

MB: ASUS P5K-VM LGA 775 Intel G33 uATX Intel Motherboard -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···13131187

Heat Sink/Fan: ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···35186134

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···20145034

HD: Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···wd1600ys

Case: Antec Sonata III Black 0.8mm cold rolled steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply -- »www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a···11129024

I have not fine-tuned services yet, as I'm tired and just wanted to get this new computer on-line and crunching. I need to order a new CD/DVD burner so will wait until that is installed before I worry about transferring data files, installing programs, etc. to make the Q6600 my main computer.

Sweet, marti See Profile!

You'll love the crunching capabilities of your quad core! Mine is just a dual core, but I love it's processing power none the less.

You have BOINC on it already?

Congratulations on your new mother of all crunchers!

Crunch on sister, crunch on!

No skills, David. You figure out what you want and post the specs to two separate forums. You change components based on who you trust. You RTFM -- I had to read the manual for the case and the MB. Putting the tinker toys together is easy, once you run out of connectors for what you have installed, you stop and boot your new computer!

'Easy' for the highly technical-minded such as yourself, maybe!

I can't even plug in a lamp without blowing a fuse!

Don't ever sell yourself short, Marti-- because you are DA-BABE!

Nice work! I'm very proud of you!

*And know who to turn to for all of my hardware questions from now on, too!
LOL!

You have no idea the weeks I spent looking at components before I ordered, nor the "where does this connector go, and do I need it," I went through today.

I thought I hated hardware, but guess I can put a system together.

Tolstoy thought he hated quill & ink-- but I guess he managed to put a novel or two together.

WCG updated stats a little while ago. As you know, BOINC waits to validate WU's before assigning them to the member. The credited stats for the new computer are:

Points: 1,344 Results: 4

The new computer was set up for WCG and BOINC late yesterday afternoon/early evening.
