xplornet fixed wireless service problems using utorrent

I am on the xplornet fixed wireless service (not the satelleite system) at 1.5MB/s but when trying to download movies using utorrent, I am lucky to get a download of around 7 or 8 K. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this.
When I check on speedtest.net I am always above my 1500 M/s download speed. I have many tweeks on utorrent to no avail.

Sure would appreciate anyones help

Thanks

check your ip on whatsmyip.org against the ip your router (or pc if you don't use a router). If they aren't the same you are NATed.

I'm in the same boat, but sometimes I get respectable utorrent speeds (100K)... nothing like I used to get on DSL at my old house.

I think the solution might be to sign up for a fixed IP, but I'm not certain. The installer who did my install claimed I needed a fixed IP for P2P (he didn't seem to know much about TCP/IP so at the time I dismissed it).

My theory is that when you get a fixed IP you get elevated from a NATed IP address to a real address. Problem is that the fixed IP could still be firewalled.... that's what I don't know.

$10/month is pretty steep for a fixed and real IP...

well I dont have a router but when I checked out that site, the info showed an address of 142.46.2.198 for a proxy address, I wonder if the proxy is part of the problem. All this proxy and computer stuff is way over my head, and of course xplornet wont support p2p clients because there is nothing wrong with their service.

Thanks

You can turn off NAT on the Motorolla Canopy witch should fix this issue. Open a web browser, enter in the Canopy's IP address. This will prompt you for a username and password. Username is blank, password to view is xyxyxy.. this will let you confirm that the canopy has you nat'd. To change a setting the best way would be to call support and ask

I phoned xplornet today as was told that the only way to turn off NAT was to switch to a static IP for 9.95/month more.

Does this sound correct?
