| A cheesy way to foil ad blockers... Ads usually come from dedicated ad-servers. This has been necessary for several reasons, including client tracking and bandwidth. Obviously, this makes it easy to block those ads.
However, if ads were served by the same machine that served the site's actual content, things become very tricky for advertisers and site owners. Yes, the business model would have to change but that seems preferable (IMO) to using the legal system.
One reason this is not so much an option is the same reason we have outfits like Media Defender out there "fighting" P2P. Few have the necessary foresight to adapt to new circumstances anymore. Oh no, people are "pirating" our music! Let's crucify them. Same thing coming with ad blocking.
Anyway, if ad blocking becomes illegal, the first FF plugin I'll want is a site blocker... perhaps a special user-agent string can be crafted that says "your site blocked from user due to obnoxious ad content"... or "multiple ads detected, visit automatically aborted" -- My Site |
