| thinking of switching to sonic.net
my sbc yahoo bill keeps going up and i am thinking of switching to sonic.net because of the great ratings. i primarily use wireless in my home (for both mac and pc) and have a 2wire 1800hg that came with the sbc dsl. i have read some not so great reviews of the zoom router/modem that comes with sonic.net so i am wondering what other options for modem/router there are. and if i purchase one elsewhere to use with sonic.net what support will there be for it? can you recommend a good router? i do have an issue with the 2wire where it loses sync easily and the signal isn't all that strong. would you suggest your basic modem and a router or a modem/router combo purchased elsewhere, and if so, which one? thanks for any advice... |

| Actually... I have had great success with the Zoom, I have one at my good friends house that I set up for him, meaning never a problem or issue at all... just good solid service, now the extra computer I gave him... that's a different story . I have a Linksys WRT 54G router/wireless combo and really like it... another solid performer. At my house I have an even older modem that Sonic supplied and it is another flawless workhorse.
As for Sonic... same here, got real tired of pachell,SBC (you fill in the name of the week that we will need to change again soon due to bad CS here______) and made the switch to one of my favorite companies to do business with... in all of consumerism.
Unfortunately (usually) most people only take time to make comments when something is wrong... I try to make up for that because Sonic is one of the few companies that operates from the old school principle that the customer is the most important part of the business. Fortunately they have the unbiased and convenient rating system here at DSLR... IMHO they have fully earned their gold medal.
I see you are across the bay from me... I hope you get to make the switch and become a regular local here in the forum
Welcome in advance! -- Mom was right.... I NEED fiber! |

| reply to linberl My suggestion would be to switch, and initially to use the 2Wire. We can help you configure it to work with our service, just takes a couple minutes.
Then, after you've been up and running for a week or two, you can check line stats with us, and we'll see if they're marginal, or if the 2Wire itself is flaky. If it is, we can provide a loaner modem or sell you a Zoom or Siemens.
