1 edit | Networking Help on Hughesnet
I am not very good on networks but heres what I'm trying to do . I have 2 pc's each with 1 gigabit cards . They have been hooked to each other and when I xfer files it was lightning fast . Now I have installed the HN7000s system and I also bought a netgear gs650 autosensing gigabit switch . I have no other routers switches or hubs . I have been told the HN7000s is a router and not to use more routers . Now my problem is both pc's get on the net and still xfer files but it xfers super duper dyna whoppin slow ;( . I have the HN7000s and both pc's running into the back of the gs650 and the 2 gigabit cards light up the green lights on the gs650 showing they have negotiated at 1000 . The Hn7000s lights up the amber light showing it has negotiated at 10/100 . I'm not sure if I'm hooking these up right . I also am not sure about what to pick for windows xp in the network setup wizard . Do I pick each pc connects through residential gateway or each pc connects through a hub . I've tried both ways but still only get about 25k xfer rate as opposed to 1000 . Can someone please help and maybe show me a little diagram cause this just can't be right . Are my cards being routed through the HN7000s and somehow slowing down through it ? Is there any certain order I should hook the cables up on the back of the gs650 ? |

| Sounds like your two gigabit cards are not working well with your auto-sensing gigabit switch...
Do you still get the same 25kbps transfer rate between PCs if you disconnect your HN7000S from the switch?
Disconnect the HN7000S, power down the switch and the PCs. Then power up the switch and the PCs. The PCs will be configured with APIPA addresses, or you can configure them with static IP addresses if you want. -- Sprint EVDO Rev. 1 edit | Hi Spinnaker , I tried that and it was still slow . It starts out about 15000 then slowly sinks down to about 2500 after 1 minute or so . Thats why I'm wondering if I'm not configuring the network properly . I have tried forcing the nics to negotiate at 1000 . They do show a greenlight on the switch which indicates they are negotiated with the switch at 1000 . If I set them to 10/100 then the amber lights glow, tried it both ways, same speed . Before I got the hn7000s and the switch they were blazing and I had dial up internet . Do you know of any url that has instructions for setting up the hughesnet modem properly for a network ?Like a schematic maybe or diagram ? |

| reply to MonstaDriva If you have an HN7000S on a service plan with NAT enabled, you just need to use a regular, straight-through patch cable to connect the HN7000S to the switch. The two PCs would also be connected to the switch with regular, straight-through, Cat 5e patch cables...
Have you tried new patch cables? Can you borrow another switch?
I can't find a Netgear GS650 switch at the Netgear Web site... Do you have a GS605?
When you had the two PCs cabled directly together (and getting high transfer speeds), did you use a crossover cable? If so, are you still using the crossover cable to connect one PC to the switch? The ports on a Netgear GS605 are autocrossover sensing, but the crossover cable may be confusing either the card or the switch... -- Sprint EVDO Rev. | yeah it is a gs605 , sorry , I'll check the cables . I am using the same cable from one pc to the switch that was running between the 2 pc's . I will have to pull them in the morning and figure out what they are ,I'll post tomorrow and thanks much for your help .
