With XP and later, I've never read any credible info that proves to me any of the automated registry cleaners/improvers (my word) are worthwhile. If one has registry issues that are truly causing problems, the OS either needs to be repaired or reinstalled (IMO).
But if one believes that they must have a auto cleaner/improver, my vote is for one that takes a very conservative approach. The less deep the cleaning/improving, the lower the chances of problems afterward.
A couple of free examples... RegSeeker is very aggresive. It typically finds hundreds of "issues." At the opposite end of the spectrum is Tweaknow RegCleaner Standard (which is much more conservative.) When I looked at it Tweaknow only found 20 or 30 things.
One other thing to be very aware of. If you must choose a cleaner/improver, only use one that has a full backup of what it removes. That way, one could hopefully restore back to where they were before the "help" was applied... |
