Does Shaw throttle on-line gaming?

Just wondering if you guys know whether or not Shaw is, or will be throttling on-line gaming at all?
The reason I ask is because lately when I play on Xbox live, NHL 08', which is awesome by the way, after a bit of gaming I notice some lag. Then when I go check my connection on a variety of sites I notice I get a really high ping on the 3rd point in my tracerts. After about 30 mins all goes back to normal. And for some reason it always seems to be Xbox live that triggers it.
Any ideas guys?
I'll tell you, if Shaw ever throttles gaming, I'll be back on Telus in record time too!

Shaw has only said they control P2P connections because of the high bandwidth usage. Gaming is not a high usage connection I wouldn't worry about it. If you are seeing lag you may have some connection or saturation issues in your neighborhood. If it is affecting you and your gaming call them up.

post your trace route.

also know shaw dose not care about xbox live connectivity or latency, so if you can reproduce the issue while surfing sites and such that will help a lot.
They will check the normal stuff like modem signal and stuff, but if the issue is xbox live only they probably wont/cant do anything.

This guy hit the nail on the head. Most multiplayer games will use about 5KB - 15KB in extreme cases for bandwidth.

Most likely a problem some place in shaws line.

Thanks dudes. Oh, and one more thing I forgot to ask...
A while back when we were having picture issues on our tv with Shaw they put in an amplifier on the line. The guy said that their amplifier would work fine with their cable modem systems because it was a 2 way amp. I was wondering, would it still be better to run a different wire for the modem and bi-pass the amp entirely? Or would it make any difference at all?

Your tracert says it all. If your ping is fine up until the 3rd hop, your modem and house cable wiring is most likely not the issue.
