| reply to billh491 said by billh491 :Athens Pizza in Putnam. I have driven by many times would not even think to stop. Not that there is anywhere to park. Is it that good? I just figured it for another Greek place like the others in town. Another vote for Athens here. They make a damn fine pizza. |

Wilsons in Windsor is pretty good too - they use 'real' dough.
Any place that uses frozen dough = gag! |

| Here's another vote for Wilsons! I live in Bolton, so I am very rarely in the NH area to get the great pizza down there. However! Pepe's just opened a 'sister' pizza joint in Manchester in the Buckland Mall area! I can't wait to get over there and try it out. There's nothing too spectacular for pizza over in this area lately. But Wilson is definitely one of the better ones. |

| reply to signmeuptoo Modern is by far my favorite in New Haven. It's excellent!
If I prefer to stay closer to the Stratford/Bpt area, I'd say Papa's pizza in Milford is excellent as well. They are brick oven style and use the sweet plum tomatoes. It's excellent, if you're ever in that area look it up it'll be worth the side trip! |

| reply to signmeuptoo Mmmmm... pizza! My wife and I are devoted to pizza from Antonio's" in Simsbury. We order it with the crust lightly done and usually keep it simple with hamburg as the only topping. They don't skimp on the tomato sauce and cheese and a large pizza runs around 17 bucks. Mmmmmm...

| reply to bennor said by bennor :By the way has anyone else had really bad service in Sally's? The only two times I've been there the service has been terrible. The first time I was there about ten years ago the waitress was extremely rude and they burnt the daylights out of the pie. Spent the next ten years avoiding the place and going to Pepe's. Figured I'd give it another go about six months ago, and again the service was terrible, but this time pie was good (and not burnt). Sally's has been banned for life in my family since about 20 years ago. It's one thing to have to wait on line forever--you see the line, you have to wait, no problem. But the last time we were there, we had no wait for a table. However, it took almost two hours to get served and all kinds of people (connected people like judges, cops, and who knows who else) got served immediately.
We initally dumped Sally's for Pepe's,which has a more consumer friendly operation, even though my wife, a New Haven native, prefers the Sally pie.
Later we moved fairly close to Modern, which has an even more consumer friendly setup. We do mostly takeout. The Modern pie is actually closer to the Sally's.
I'm from Brooklyn, and I've gudgingly admitted that the top three New Haven pies are the equal of New York's best, e.g., Jonn's or Lombardi's. |

However, it took almost two hours to get served and all kinds of people (connected people like judges, cops, and who knows who else) got served immediately. Both times I went to Sallys the same thing happened. the first time I asked the waitress what happened to our pie since many other people were coming in (after waiting in line) being served and leaving. The waitress said; "I don't know why don't you go talk to the guy over there" and she went back to talking to the people in the next booth. She wasn't even taking their order. So I ask the guy who she pointed to and he said "well haven't you talked to your waitress?" It went down hill from there. It turned out they burnt the pie and no one bothered to tell us. They said they'd make another one and actually had the nerve to charge us full price for it. When we left we didn't leave a tip and the waitress actually yelled at us, from across the packed restaurant, for not leaving a tip. Oh I lost it! I "calmly" explained, across the packed restaurant, to the waitress that we have been in the place for over two and a half hours, had our pie burnt, were treated like trash by the staff, and they expected us to leave a tip?
My second and last experience there wasn't much better. But others seem to rave about the place. Go figure |

For all the time I spend in Windsor (I work there, and my gf lives there), I still haven't gotten to Italian Corner. Family Pizza is good, but some of their pies I find a bit too salty (haven't had any white pies there yet). I get grinders there all the time though. For pizza in Windsor I prefer Jim's or Wilson |
