| [Business] Comcast Workplace info needed
I'm a Comcast residential account at 8/768 @ 52.95 a month plus the modem rental. I'm also a TWC convert. Recently, I've had some very long outages, the last long one was a day and a half of no net connectivity.
Today, around 2:10, I had another one that lasted until about an hour ago.
If I upgraded to Comcast Workplace, how much would it cost to get 8/768 or 8/1. Would I get the same speed upgrades residential tiers get and most importantly, would it be more reliable? Does that package have guaranteed uptime?
Any info I could get on this would be much appreciated. |

| At least in this area, there is no service level agreement, so business is "best effort" just like residential service. You're running on the same wires as everyone else, so if there's an outage it affects everyone. The one good side is the support seems to be better, I've never had to wait on hold for tech support, and they are usually able to roll a truck same day or next day. |

| It was brought up in another thread that there's no SLA, and I simply don't get how they can charge more than 2x the price without an SLA. I realize it's still relatively cheap, compared to T1's/etc, but from what I can see the only things that differentiate the business from the residential are:
1. better support (this may or may not be true) 2. permitted in the TOS to run servers
So they're charging $99.99/mo for 6/768 vs. about half that for 8/768, with no SLA? Seems kind of fishy, but I guess if you want a static IP badly enough, it's worth it. -- "The Dude abides." |

| Eh, in that case, I'll just stick with what I have and take the outages. I was hoping that the business class was exempt from outages that effected the residential service. If not, I'm better off sticking with what I have.
Thanks for the feedback. |

| reply to deblin Deblin, my experience with Comcast Business has been with ... businesses! They aren't eligible to sign up for the residential service, naturally, but the price is VERY attractive when compared with other services out there.
I do consulting and have a few clients who have installed it for various needs. As pointed out elsewhere, it certainly has its place in the market.
For an emergency backup internet connection it's fine, for a small branch office with a VPN back to the main office it's been great. One place even offers free wifi to customers over their Comcast line, and it's much cheaper than beefing up their network to accommodate VLANs and all the other security needed if they were to piggy back the traffic over their network.
P.S. When did you graduate PSU? I was there '90 - '94... good times.... |

| True, it's certainly a very attractive product for a small business! The Verizon business FiOS line I have now doesn't come with an SLA, either, so I'm not really surprised.
I was at PSU '95-'00 (7 months off for an internship). Definitely good times! Go State! Beach Michigan! -- "The Dude abides." |
