| Question---Leaving Vonage
I switched to Comcast Cable last year when they took over my local cable service. At the time they weren't offering Digital Voice, so I chose to cancel my Bellsouth phone and port the number to Vonage.
I have been a Vonage customer for a year and have had no problems with Vonage service or billing and have been satisfied for the most part. However, now Comcast is offering Digital Voice and I want to take advantage of the Triple Play.
We called Comcast tonight to sign up for CDV service and plan to keep our number. When the CSR began to process the order and submit it, they told us that they could not process the order because Vonage has a "block" on my number.
Is this common? I plan to call Vonage during business hours and let them know I'm leaving, but how/why are they blocking my number so that I can not already begin the transition of signing up with a new service and moving my number? |

| I work in the port in team for Comcast.. There is no such "BLOCK" that we can detect at sign-up.. It is detected by the port department.
Try your attempt to sign up again.. however though I work for Comcast, your better to stay with Vonage..
There is still lot of issue with the CDV |

I can think of two situations where the "block" might be legitimate. In the regular phone world, one can tell the local Bell company to "freeze" or "block" the porting of one's phone number until the customer removes it ... this is to prevent unauthorized changes -- this evolves from the old problem with long distance companies changing your service from one company to another without permission, it happened in the local world, too. Perhaps Vonage does have a portability block on your number ... their support department might be able to confirm if there is one and to remove it.
More likely is that your BellSouth phone number is in a different rate center than what Comcast has. Find out if Comcast were to assign you a phone number the first 6 digits of that phone number (area code and exchange). You already know the first 6 digits of your own number. Look them both up here »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco and see if the "Ratecenter" name is the same. If not the same, no porting for you. If they are the same, then come back and maybe we can figure something out for you. -- "Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee to solicit and support former SunRocket customers." |
