How to setup Bridge Mode with New Verizon Westel GUI ??

Click for full size
Hi,

setting up DSL here for a friend and the new Verizon DSL Modems have a completely different GUI then the previous modems.
The Modem modem no is: E90-610015-06
Rev: J 06/2007

how do I set this up so it will work with a router. I looked up the previous instructions and they partly apply now with the new GUI.

Any help is appreciated.

I have done the un-check Private Private Lan but what else do I need to do? I cloned the Modems MAC address into the router.

what else??

well I figured it out and you have to go to My Network and change the settings there.

Somebody might want to write new instructions for the new GUI.

thanks

BD

Please, feel free. Most of the people that come here with the new GUI are on their own because not many that know what they're doing have used the new interface. There is no documentation from Verizon for us to look at, either.

»Re: [modem/router] Westell 6100 "new look" settings for Linksys

my network -> network connections -> edit broadband -> edit vc -> protocol, bridge -> bridge, bridge -> apply
Then to disable dhcp: advanced -> ip distribution -> ip address distribution, off -> apply

@verizon.net
And clone the modem's MAC address in your router's MAC cloning config

One thing I forgot to mention, the wba needs to be disabled on the new ones regardless of bridging..

If you have it working without the router in place no worries, if its a new modem or reset modem, you need to goto either »192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect or »192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm (stupid new versions one works on some, other works on others..)

I have bridge mode working (set to bridge mode as mentioned above, but also had to disable private DHCP server) but for some reason all my ports are stealthed, even when opened on my router. Any idea on how to fix this with the Westell 6100 (E90-610015-06)? I need some ports open for videochat, VPN, etc.

I forgot to mention that NAT works just fine, and after doing some research, it seems as though the 6100 has NAT on in bridge mode, which could conflict with my router (Netgear), correct? I've used the router before, and have never had any problems with it. Can NAT be disabled on the new 6100 so that it acts like my old plain DSL modem?

Ok, well it's working fine. I guess I was testing the ports incorrectly. I feel stupid.

I struggled for hours until I found this post. The key is in glemlin's post about the disabling the wba.
192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect or »192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htm
Once I disabled that setting, on the hidden, "restricted page," I was up and running again, without cloning the MAC. It's crazy, man! Who thinks this stuff up? Thanx glemlin!

Why can't they just put a switch on the side of the router that you position to the 'Use with router' mode to set all these things without the user knowing anything? Then routers should come with a default IP other than one commonly used by modems. Tech support calls and equipment returns would decrease dramatically for all concerned.

Whose grandmother can figure out all of this malarkey.

Because they don't need to. All that's needed to share the connection with multiple pc's is a switch, not a router. It's the people that choose to add a router that run into this.

Can you run 2 PC's online at the same time with a switch?

As long as you have a modem with routing capabilities, yes, a switch is all you need. Only the modems prior to the Westell 2100's and the Westell 6110 don't have this feature. It's how I've been running my setup for years.

Almost everyone buys a router with the problem being that kid in the local office store telling grandma she needs a router. Complicating matters, where does one buy a wireless switch .. just wireless routers. Home WI-Fi is the in thing today.

Now I know I can add a Wi-Fi access point to the switch but I'm somewhat more knowledgeable about these things the most (not all) grandmothers.

I wonder how much perfectly good home networking equipment is returned because the buyer cannot get it to work?

No, you're right, adding wireless is a different animal. But Verizon even covers that with the 327w and Aciontec. They are not as full featured as a seperate router, but for those that are clueless, it's all they need.

Mr. Jodokast,
Please allow me to object, in the strongest possible terms, to your use of the word "Actiontec" and the word "clueless" in the same line of text on my browser screen. While others not so sensitive to the issue of the Actiontec modem's minority status among Verizon users might let pass this seemingly innocent juxtaposition without comment I feel driven to denounce it.

Sincerely,
Phillip

You are kidding right, lol? Cause if you are serious, all I can say is, WTF? Besides, in my browser, they are in seperate lines.

Yeah, that was a joke too.

See I once frequented a newsgroup that heavily frowned upon emoticons. This was pre-web USENET. Really my formative years on the internet.

Anyway, now I'm incapable of using them. I'm conditioned against it. I know, I'm crippled. Just the cross I bear...

Lol, I know what you mean. I use them, but not very often.
