<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/169278"><b>racer9876</b></A> : Well you have to remember this, satellite is a totally different beast from cable.<br>In cable it is a closed system that can use any of the available spectrum ranging from 0-750MHz or more depending on the cable plant's configuration.  If they need extra capacity they can split nodes or lay new cable. <br>Satellite on the other hand is a open system meaning its broadcast over the air and uses a much smaller part of the spectrum.  I would guess around 100-200Mhz of bandwidth.  This same signal is broadcast over the entire country meaning it has a single data pipe to move all that information through for everyone not 50-300 homes like cable.<br>So that is why they have to institute caps to insure that their is enough available bandwidth for everyone.  Yeah I know that sucks but hey that's physics for ya.]]></description>
