Why involve the gov't at all?

The nice thing about our country is that we're free to deploy our own networks if we want without relying on the government. It never ceases to amaze me when I see how people bitch and complain about the lack of broadband in their area. Here's an idea: form a community-involved consortium/initiative/whatever-you-wanna-call-it, gather all your neighbors and fellow residents/citizens/etc together, hold a town meeting, talk about building a community-driven access network, look into purchasing T1 or whatever access, set pricing models, line up the customers (the residents themselves) and beat the telcos, cable providers, gov't, etc. at their own game and be involved in running and satisfied in knowing that you're helping out yourself and your fellow neighbor because you all built this awesome network.

(yes I know I left out details.)

/off my soapbox now.

I think I will wait for 700MHz
Is the gov't going to ban wifi ?
I am glad some people in Vietnam got to use the internet.
Chicago the class rooms had computers the administrator was happy to point that out. I got the computers to work and connected them to the cisco router to the t1 line to administration wasn't as happy as when the computers just sat there, I thank God They had a porn filter.
