Just downloaded it a couple of hours ago. Check the version to make sure that you have the latest release. It should say Release Candidate 1.

Don't know about the Avtivirus only version.

Are there any "suites" that still run on Win 9x/ME machines?

I would say most if not all vendors are going away from
98 and ME..sad news but the truth

If I had more money, I would also go away from Windows ME. I'm still looking for a vendor who sells Windows XP SP2 at a competitive price. Hm...

I can't speak for the suite but with the current NOD32 there isn't an option to NOT install those items either. The current release client does not have that option. As has been discussed on Wilders it doesn't hurt anything to leave them running as far a resources go. I just turn off what I don't need.

For those trying the new NOD32 v3 RC I tried it but I had some issues. It seemed to be working fine but I was downloading some large files in Firefox and towards the end Fx locked up on me. I cancelled and had to Cntrl-Alt-Del to get Fx to close. I tried again and got the same issue. I changed a few setting and got it again. Rebooted and tried again with the same issue. I then uninstalled the NOD32 RC and the issue went away. YMMV I did have the HTTP turned off so not exactly sure what the issue with NOD was. The current version works fine.

jbob: Pure speculation on my part but I believe NOD's real-time component (used to be AMON) doesn't scan those downloaded files until the downloads are complete. I've always had delays on immediate accessibility of large downloaded files with NOD... even with current 2.7.

In this case I think the culprit might have been IMON rather than AMON. I use IMON now with NOD32 but have HTTP Checking disabled. When I was testing the RC I left it enabled to test. Without further testing however I cannot be sure what the issue was.

What about NOD32? I'm just talking about the AV, not Smart Security. Does anybody know whether NOD32 3.0 will be compatible with Win 9x/ME?

I do hope "FanJ" and I will get a definite answer to our question.

Our question regarding the compatibility of NOD32 with Windows 9x/ME machines has not yet been answered in the so-called official NOD32 forum at Wilders, and it probably never will. Poor service. My subscription to NOD32 will expire shortly. Time to move on.

I'm now trialling avast, which is (still) compatible with my operating system. I find this program a bit confusing. The GUI is ugly (the skins don't make it better), but this AV seems to do its job. It's free, it's compatible with my OS and it works the way it should. I shouldn't complain, should I? Jan, again thank you very much for your help.
